So what pads are everyone running?

I'm currently on stock and have had one track event...after the event, I FELT like I used about 30% of the stockers, which I will confirm with Jimmy next week. My front driver-side now also squeaks during the last 5 ft of a complete stop...

I also got a set of Hawk HPS, which I'll be putting on and pushing hard next wknd.

I plan to save mt stockers for winter cuz they're more than adequate.

What are your thoughts and epxerience?

if you want good track pads then go with the HP+. IF you are a baller and want even better pads then search to see if endless makes brake pads for your car. mind you that the hp+ and the endless pads will squeal. hp+ are around $120-150 for the fronts. Endless pads are expensive but they are the best. they range from $200-$400 a set for the fronts only. I'm planning to run the endless CCX with my BBK.

more info here.

Pearly is right in that the HP+ and Endless will squeal, and I find most customer do not like that on the street. If you're mechanically inclined then you might consider getting a set then putting them on only when you go to the track.

So the squeal I'm hearing...I'm not too worried about it as I'm not embarassed when my car makes such sounds...but I'm wondering if it's a result of glazing? I'm pretty sure I didn't use up my pads already...

I'm thinking about rebedding my brakes later on tonight to see if it helps.

I'm really considering a set of HP+, and I think for most, the reason why it squeals is because the pads weren't properly bedded. Do most mechanics bed your pads after they install? Or is it always good practice to do it yourself regardless? I tend to do it anyway for shits and giggles...but not to the point of flatspotting my tires.

I can not see myself paying more than $120 - 150 for my needs.

I was thinking just that after reading your first post! You undoubtably over heated your brakes, hence glazing them.It only stands to reason since you had no problems before then. You can always try going over the pads and rotors with some emery cloth to rid them of any glaze.

I think you can also try flipping your rotors.

Jimmy replaced my OEM pads on Monday...said that my front was burned and hardened....about 20% wear and he suggested that I don't put them back on for spirited driving as they MAY crack...what do you guys think?

The HPS are alright...haven't pushed them yet...which speaks volume about the quality of the OEM pads, esp when you don't burn/glaze them...

I'm currently running the Hawk HPS, but will be exchanging them for another brand after I do some more research. Although they stop on a dime, they squeal like stuck pigs if I apply 1/4 pressure. I went to my local race shop and found out that they are wearing unevenly (creating a small lip) which is causing the squeal.

I got hawk ceramics and ss brakelines. Anybody knows a good brake fluid I should get? I heard Ford brake fluid is very good for track. Is this true?

Ford brake fluid can be purchased at Canadian tire. They have higher boiling point threshold then the regular dot3 stuff. In my old nissan I used them and they were good & cheap. Our cars are technically "fords".. it should work ? lol:chuckle. If you are changing the brake fluid yourself MAKE SURE you wear gloves!!!! brake fluid are toxic and will burn your skin if touched.

Hey Matt...I'm running the ELF 650 Frelub (or some euro twang) from Jimmy...it's DOT4...and I plan to change it out every yr anyway...good stuff and good price...

Thanks for bringing this thread back...I'm on HPS and will be looking at HP+ for next season...the HPS do squeal badly after a track day...so I figure if they squeal anyway, might as well go full monty for the HP+...

how are you finding the ceramics so far? any other pads you might try?

they are not installed yet. I wanted to buy some brake fluid first since I will have to bleed the brakes anyways. I heard great things about the ford fluid from others at the track. I think I will give it a try. I also received my Toyo RA1's that I need to mount on my rotas soon so I will probably do my brakes when I swap my wheels next.

Are you guys still on stock rotors?

yes...stock rotors...I tend to think they're pretty good...depending on how you find the Ford stuff, I might give it a go as well since I've heard good things about it too from the days when I actually had a Ford...lol...

Since the stock rotors are holding up well, I might try a more aggressive pad which means I might also commit to a rotor upgrade after next season...hopefully...

Good stuff on RA1's...surprisingly, I got my Toyo number too! Now I just need the $ to buy a set...hehehe...the 615's I got for track now have seen 5 events so far and prolly will barely make it past 6...this is the worst I've ever been beating on tires before...I dunno but I might have to drop the hammer on a set of R's for Beaverun...

* Hawk HPS pads F/R (with Rotora slotted rotors)
* RBF600 brake fluid flushed last year

1 track school, 3 track days and the pads haven't squealed yet. stopping power is far better than stock, or even stock Front/EBC Green Rear that I had before putting the HPS's on.

FYI: DOT 3 Ford Brake fluid, have a really low wet boiling point and very high dry boiling point
I don't use Ford's fluid due to the low wet boiling point, I'm using ELF 650 Frelub from Jimmy as well.
I tried Motul Dot 5.1, I like ELF 650 more. However, that maybe because Jimmy bleeded my braking system very well.

That Ford stuff is cheap and some people seem to use it religiously - but they also change fluid often (i.e. shortly before and after a track or HPDE day).

I have used Hawk HP and the HP+ and love them both. I run these pads in the summer and stock pads in the winter. If it matters, I run Super Blue brake fluid.
