Due to our very unique relationship with KVR Performance Brakes, we've gotten our hands on a prototype set of two piece front rotors for the Mazdaspeed3.

I can't get into any details, but due to dramatic weight loss, these rotors see a WHP gain on the vehicle of between 7 and 12 HP. Yes, you read that correctly. I'll post the tech document when I get it later this week, but these are top of the line rotors contain some unique design features, some of which are hinted at in the pictures.

We all know that the brakes on the MS3 are great stock. There is really no need to be considering a big brake kit. However, they are lacking in two key areas. Firstly, they are pig heavy, stealing valuable WHP on the way to the ground. Secondly, heat dissipation for track use is just not good enough. These aftermarket, 2 piece units solve both those problems.

They will not be readily available for another few months, but for those looking for a great upgrade path for the brakes of the MS3, these are what you have been waiting for. Pricing will be in line with other KVR 2 piece units, but has not been finalized as of yet.

These two should be going on our car within the next week, along with replacement one piece rears with the same slotting pattern.

Price????

They will not be cheap, so those looking with pricing being a top priority can look elsewhere.

RX8 2 piece fronts from KVR are $795 per pair. These should be in line with those, though it is not set yet.

Variety of Hat colours and other options available.

Very nice looking rotors.

WOW very interesting. Do everyone get their name engraved? Wonder what the blue looks like... and what pads would best fit these? I am starting to study to upgrade my brakes :)

Nope, engraving of name is a little something special they did for me :)

This will give you an idea an idea of the different Hat colours.

I'd probably recommend Hawk Ceramic pads for these. I of course have them in stock already.

I love them! If I was tracking my car, I'd be all over those!

I didn't realize they were that expensive, though the ones on my Sunfire were part of a package deal so I guess I never saw the price for the rotors alone.

Installed these Monday night at Street Performance. We were doing Cobb springs at the same time so it took a little while but they are now on. I'm still not being too hard on them but they are doing great :)

One minor thing that threw us for a little while was the dimensions seemed out at first, then we realized that the hat was thinner than the stock one. Only thing to be aware of because of that is that your caliper clearance will lessen by about 3 - 4 mm so be sure to check it first. And no, this does not effect balancing :)

Have to say, they do look mighty hot. Those hat bolts give a very distinctive look. And they are also a hell of a lot lighter than stock rotors. We didn't have a scale with us, but KVR says about 7lbs per rotor lighter.

With light weight wheels and these rotors you could save about 14lbs per wheel (fronts only). That would make a huge difference.

Got pics on my camera, will post tonight hopefully..... FYI, wheels are dirty though :)

So anything on pricing?

would a change to lighter break on the sedan yield similar performance gain results?

Reducing rotating mass will always give a performance gain, moreso the further it is from the center of rotation... so yes, it would. But these are too big for the sedan.

$800 for a better brake disc and a 7HP - 12HP gain is a great deal....
Very nice.... certainly outside of my budget and plans.. but this is definitely a great mod from KVR.

Gonna be posting more info soon. Pricing will be right in line with other KVR 2 piece 13 inch rotors. I've also got word they are doing a special pad for the MS3 as well, which their engineer says will have the performance of the HP+ with the noise of an HPS.

Also none of the embedded pics are showing up. I am looking to buy 2-piece Ms3 rotors. Participated in a group buy for Girodisc units and no one but me ponied up the money so it fell through.

Is the hat dimension not being identical as stock still a problem? Reason why I'm asking is cause I've tried to preserve factory offsets and alignment by not lowering the car and using OEM 16" wheels with the same width and offset to maintain OEM scrub radius and everything associated with that.
