From the Wheels section in yesterday's Star (June 15, 2008)
Family five-doors for the future
... "FIRST PLACE: Mazda3 Sport GX ... You and your wallet will have the final say. But we think the more mature and refined Mazda is worth it." ...

The reliability factor can't compare with those other cars. Mazda3 all the way for sure! Consumer Reports says the same thing and lists the M3 as a Recommended Buy.

I like Saturn. I liked them a heck of a lot more before the complete GM take over in 96-97 era. Mmmm... The Ion Redline and the Sky Redline are both amazing looking cars. Wish I could try them out.
My Dad has had three Saturns in his life, a '93 wagon, '00 and '02 large wagon. They were all very solid cars, never had any problems with them at all, never had to warranty anything on them. The Yaris my Dad bought because of Toyota reliability has already been in for a $3000 fix, luckily under the powerterrain warranty, and my MS3 had a blown rear shock already. People make fun of Saturns and I really don't understand why. They make decent all-around cars. Can't say much for their van/SUV's, though. Never been in one or had family/friends own one before.
That being said, I love my MS3 and would never give it up for anything else.

The Saturn is not an American car...it is a re-badged Opel which is from Europe. They're actually pretty nice cars.

And to add to this, Mazda is part American. Ford owns the largest chunk of Mazda stock and can basically tell Mazda what to do. There are hundreds of parts on our cars that ford makes. Every single part you see FoMoCo on, Ford made. Like our brakes, for one.

I must say that my 3 with the MS CAI and cat back has been my favorite car to date that I've owned. I've driven many compact cars and personally can't come up with one that can compair.

Actually, when Saturn was founded back in 1985 and then started making cars in 1990, it was started with a very small budget, and it was an American company. If I remember correctly, they were given a budget somewhere in the neighbourhood of $300,000,000 to start, and that was it. Not only until recent have their cars started coming from European clones, such as the new Aura, Astra(obviously), and the Vue. The SC, L-series, and Ion, to name a few, were all designed on this side of the ocean.
As for the Mazda blowing shocks, be thankful its the only issue these cars really have.
As for the parts being labeled FoMoCo, its standard issue to label this. Check out your gas tank as well, it also wears that label. Next, check your rad. too. But most of the sensors and electrical are Bosche Germany. Mazda doesn't cheap out where necessary.

We owned a Saturn Vue for a little while. I hated it. The interior was very cheap and just screamed GM. It had the 4 cyl which just sounded overworked all the time. I should have splurged for the 3.5 Honda V6 I guess.
Just my opinion. Never would buy one again though.

I think Ford owns 33% of Mazda, do a search

I already know this fact, why would I have to do "a search" on it? My uncle was the Brampton plant union head of Ford, I know full well what Ford owns and what Ford is going to do (business wise) before it ever hits the papers.

According to Business Week Ford owns 33.4% of Mazda, and plans to change that to 14.4% in the very near future. I seriously doubt that Ford is "telling" Mazda what to do.
Where do internet people get their delusions. I don't think that having an uncle "janitor" who works at a Mazda plant qualifies as an inside source. I think I would take the sources for a major newspaper over your uncle.
Mazda and ford have been sharing parts for decades.

33.4% is not majority shareholder stake.

Ford already sold 20%. They are now down to a 13% stake.

last thing mazda needs is american decision making, good to hear they own even less of mazda now, with 13 they pretty much have no say during any voting.
I'm so tired of people telling me that my Mazda is a Ford. Now I can tell them that it Ford has even less of a stake in Mazda. So there!

The only Ford made Mazdas are the truck and the Tribute. And the Tribute is identical to the Ford Escape pretty much. The only difference is the resale value at the end of the day.

And the fact that you are driving a Ford (Found On Road Dead) instead of a Mazda!! I think just having the badge on your car makes all the difference :chuckle
