All,
Hello to all of you, I am in the market for a Mazda3, but the Mazda dealer near the base here has a horrible reputation (all the dealers here pretty much have a "screw the troops for every dollar they have" pact) so I have found this site as a reference. I saw that there was an actual dealer here (Biz) so I thought I could bring him some business.
But first, a little back story since this is supposed to be a friendly message board and not just a market. My name is Sean Newman, and I'm currently posted in Petawawa, which is about four hours north of TO. I currently drive a Dodge Ram, and I'm a fan of bikes, too. I have a 1977 Yamaha RD400 two stroke cafe racer, and I just got rid of a 2006 Suzuki SV650S.
What brings me to your thread is that I am going to deploy to Afghanistan this Labour Day, but my wife has just gotten pregnant with number two, and is really not liking the thought of climbing into the big 4x4 all by herself while pregnant, and lugging the first baby 10 feet in the air to plug her into the baby seat. The truck has got to go before I deploy.
I also tested the Corolla and Civic. The Corolla I actually liked the looks of (the S), but I could not believe how boring the drive was. The Civic to me looks terrible on the outside, but I'm not going to lie to you I absolutely loved the interior and the ride. If the outside looked better it might have had more of a chance.
So the above, as well as a great reliability review from Consumer Reports, and some impressive comparison test reviews, as well as the hatchback option has driven my choice to the 3 (0% financing helps too).
Here is what I want:
2008.5 Mazda3 Sport GT, w/ Auto, Stormy Blue. No other options or warranty required.
Here is what I am trading:
2002 Dodge Ram SLT Sport 4x4, Reg Cab, 5.9L. Everything except leather, incl:
(SLT has power windows/locks, info centre, etc)
20" Chrome, w/ body colour bumpers/grille.
Infinity CD
Power adjustable pedals, steering wheel audio
Box bedliner, rear sliding window
Aftermarket tint, Westin push bar.
Typing it into Blackbook, with 85km it comes out to $9,900 to $11,750. Since my truck is in great shape, nearly loaded, I would assume $11,250 or so. Take that number, and the only damage being some minor scuffing on the back bumper, and the broken trim piece under the front bumper, and even if you replace both fully, a fair trade would still be $10,500 to $11k. The dealer here offered me $9,200, so I walked out. There was no way I was taking the value for a base model minus the damage instead of the sport model and other options minus damage.
So anyway, doing the math on my trade and the mazda.ca website, I think it is very possible to get payments for under $300/mo for 60mos if trading in my truck. If I get ~$10,500 for my truck from Biz, I promise you I will buy a car from him this week.
I am leaving on my pre-tour leave on 28 June, so I'd really like this car before my vacation because I'm driving all over.
I have thousands of posts on svrider.com and some others, and I assure you if I get the car I will become a rabid member of this board, because I'm all about customizing and tinkering and I'd love to get all of your input.
Biz, please call me:
