I went to my local Airport Mazda, on Rexdale boulevard....just down the street from me.
The service tech(Manager?) stated that he has a truck running 300K+ KM on his Mazda truck and that;
"you should be changed your oil every 5000km" instead of 8000km, and that Synthetic oil is useless unless you just wanna pay more for the oil, he says there's no point in putting in synthetic, just change your oil every 5000k.
He stated that 8000km is the maximum life span and what is covered by Mazda, but i should cover his personal recommended 5000k maintenance plan.
(As well as come in @ 8000k too???) And apparently he doesn't carry 5w20 synthetic at his shop...
This place reminds me of Canadian Tire...this guy was miserable.
Any thoughts on the whole maintenance guide/synthetic oil?

If you keep to service schedule that the owners manual suggest Mazda will honor the warranty and you should be fine. I bring my car in every 7500 km and prefer synthetic oil myself. I got great life out of my last car using synthetic and I'm doing it again. I like to buy my own oil and Mazda of Toronto are great about doing the oil change for me. I tell them before hand that the oil is in the trunk.

They'd love to take your money more often.
Fact is, Mazda says 8000 and that's good enough for me.

thats correct!! i do the oil change every 8000km with sync. BMW changes the oil for free, when you bring in the car only 5000km, they will laugh at you.

5000km has to be done with regular oil up to 8k max. But warranty is covered up to 8000km of every service. If they place a cheap regular oil, then yeah 5000km is recommended. Sythetic oil does make a lot of difference, do you need it? not really, our cars will run fine on regular oil, but with frequent changes. But if you plan to keep a car for half of its life or more then synthetic is better. So its up to you, many people change oil at 5-8k and 8-10k is for sythetic. So its up to you. Like they say dealer wants your money, like any other business. I go with every 8k and get an oil change then, not sure what they will use because I have 5 year free oil change card and havent done my first service yet.

I have stop going to airport Mazda due to the crapping service. It's worth the drive to Select or Oakville Mazda.

Mazda recommends 8000km with regular oil.

I just missed my first free oil change at Belleville Mazda. Not on purpose but I figured... ah might as well do it myself anyway and use semi-syn. in it. Castrol recommends that blend for me with the short trips I have.
