Taken from the AutoTech 06-24-08 newsletter:

Mazda Motor Corp. says it intends to improve the efficiency of all its vehicles enough to lower their average fuel consumption 30% by 2015. The company says it will achieve its goal by making future vehicles lighter, adding hybrids, introducing next-generation diesel engines and overhauling its entire powertrain lineup. Mazda also will introduce a new type of automatic start/stop system for cars in Japan and Europe next year that can boost fuel economy as much as 8%

Boys get ready for small engines capacities. The 2.5L 2009 Mazda3 be the last of it's size if oil prices continue the way they are. World demand is for greater fuel efficiency if we continue to use Oil.

I'm interested to see how well that new 'restart' system works. It's a step in the right direction.

I heard one of the ways that BMW or mercedes reduced the weight of their cars to meet efficiency ratings was to cut off the screw heads. Across the whole car, they saved enough to actually make a pretty significant difference.
