Since our 3's/Axel's gas tank is on the right hand side...how do you guys line up to fill in when there is a line? I always have to back in because a majority of car's gas tanks are on the left hand side and unless I fill when there are no cars around then its ok.

i have actually been able to avoid line ups cuz of that...

i see whole lineups of ppl trying to get into the right hand side pumps, while theres this whole empty space for the left handed ones

I unscrew the cap, lift nozzle, hit 87 and pump away :chuckle

Note: I also shed a tear as I watch the numbers rise due to the prices

This has never been an issue for me.

Me either... I haven't really seen a lineup at a gas station in a long time...

What's always screwed me up is that my car has the fuel door on the drivers side and our old MZ3 had it on the other. I would always fill up my wife's car for her and I'd typically pull into the station the wrong way.

Her new car has the fuel door on the drivers side like mine so it's all good now :)

I always found that on the lower end cars (entry level, mostly), the fuel door always seemed to be on the passenger's side, and the more expensive cars, it's on the driver's side....

Then I drove my Grandma's SLK500, which has it on the passenger's side, and that shot that idea to hell... :chuckle

I still make mistakes pulling up to the wrong side of the gas bar after almost a year and 5000km of ownership... My previous car had one on the driver side; In my Mazda I sometimes pull up to the driver's side, and turn off the car, pop the gas tank lid then realize that the gas tank is on the passenger side. Then I need to move the car looking like an idiot :P I already get attention from the gas station owner for idling the car for about a minute before I turn the car off and start pumping, this doesnt make it any better :blush

just look at your gas gauge before you turn off your car, the arrow will remind you and get your butt in gear. :chuckle

there's a tiny arrow in the circle where your gas gauge is.. it points to the right.. I only know this because somebody mentioned this in another thread here and I ran home and checked it out.. =P is this in every car??

I spotted a possible TM3er at Esso, mccowan/buroak doing the whole back in thing. White mazda 3 GT with exhaust, HIDs.

Also a mazda6 with nextmod.com windshield banner. low, hids, body kit

Yep. Most if not all cars have such a thing.

I'm not sure if this is true but the side that the gas gauge is on the dashboard, the tank should be on the corresponding side? (i.e Mazda3 gas gauge on the right cluster, gas tank on the passenger side). Check it out.

Hmmmm, I've never noticed that... But I'm definitely going to notice now, if it's true. I've never heard that, either. :pop

it took me awhile to get used to the right side tank, since I would always pull in the wrong side. I still have to think about it sometimes before pulling in. But has never been a problem backing up etc. As there is barely ever line ups.

I always thought that domestic cars were on the passenger side, and imported cars were on the driver side. This is why the 3 confused me.

But I could be wrong.

This arrow is also mentioned in the manual. So helpful! My old car has the pump on the driver side.

So true I've been in many situations like that

However when I was in Germany every car pulls up to the next available pump (no backing up) just forward; all cars are facing one way. If your tank is on the other side everyone just stretches the hose over/behind their car

I stretched the hose over the back of my car and the gas station attendant told me I couldn't pump my gas like that so I had to move and lost my spot in line! :flaming I think he was just being a jerk 'cause I've never heard of such a thing before!

Is it even possible in our gas stations? I think in europe the hose is longer too.

did you know that if you're on the highway and lane you're in exits, the lines on the pavement are thicker?

(for some reason, i felt this comment was appropriate... lol)

Not sure if anyone has noticed this, but you can generally tell on other peoples cars which side they fuel on just by seeing the back of the car (Unless it's a dual exhaust).

I've noticed that whatever side the exhaust is, the fuel door is on the opposite side. The exhaust of the Mazda 3 is on the driver side and thus the fuel door is on the passenger. Whey this is, not sure. Possibly due to space of things? And it's likely not due to price/entry level as this one is on the passenger but the corolla is on the driver (or at least my old corolla).

Now I did notice a few exceptions to this but for the most part, this seems to be the case.

Just something useless I've noticed around...

I used to work at a gas station a couple of years ago and you would see the stupid ass people doing it. Would piss me off everytime they did it too! :flaming

I've done it in the past, when i forgot which side it was on.
One of my cars is on the left, and the other is on the right.... and sometimes out of habit I line up wrong.

Any dangers of pulling the hose over the back??? I tend to drive up close to the pump anyway so there is a fair bit of slack....

The hoses used to be longer and people did it all the time. I didn't have it 'stretched' dangerously or anything. I pulled up close to the pump, too.

From my understanding and what I remember from training they never said it would incorrect to do however the little diagrams always had the car pulled up the correct method. I'm sure it's not something you would want to do so stop doing it! :chuckle However in regards to Sellina's comment I believe the length has not changed assuming your going to the larger gas station names: (Esso, Sunoco, Petro Canada, Shell/Beaver)
