so i bought some stupid air freshener from pmall and the sun heated it up and i guess the paint melted and started to collect on the bottom of air freshener. So yesterday i decided to remove it cuz i didnt like it anymore and i found the paint is stuck there.

So i started using water and some paper and began rubbing it off. It didnt do much. Then being the genius i am, i used gasoline (before trying paint thinner or that paint removing crap because i heard that thing will melt the plastic if u leave it on too long), and i started to rub it and it seemed that i was getting it off because on the tissue it was showing blackish silver colour. Then i kept it up and when i knew it, i ended up smudging it all over :bang

So now, i come here to ask for any advice on removing this crap cuz its showing a big white smudge on black thing above the emergency light button and its really pissing me off. I hope i dont have to buy another piece to replace it.

anyone can help me?

Try goo gone. That piece is plastic and scratches easily.

A replacement piece is pretty expensive you might consider getting something to cover it up if you can't fix it.

The middle dash piece with vents in it? Easy enough to remove. So I would remove it and try Varsol on the underside... make sure the plastic doesn't go weird. If no reaction with the plastic, they try removing the airfreshener goo. Another possible solven would be rubbing alcohol.

hmmm, yes it is the piece with the vents in it. Well its too late.... being the smart person i am, i think i used too much gas and rubbed off the too much paint so i think i screwed up the texture a little. I am a little pissed but my gf works at the acura collision part thingy and shes going to take my car in to let those guys look at it.

If anything i repaint it after i sand it down or something.... maybe paint it silver?

Your looking at around 100 ish for just that piece. Might be able to get it cheaper off ebay or a private sale though.

The whole thing with that piece is if you paint it something shiney you might be giving yourself glare on a sunny day since it's directly in your field of view. It can also reflect in the windshield making it really annoying.

Or get it from the wreckers....

Never had much luck talking to them. They treat it as part of the entire Dash console (aka $300+)

If you want to try to refinish yourself, you could use black automotive trim-paint. It's used for painting wiper arms, the black part around the windows etc. It is a nice almost-but-not-quite flat black, and won't peel or fade in the sunlight.

fibrenew will repaint that for you and match it to the dash....you could remove it yourself and bring it to fibrenew and it would be less $$ than if he has to make a visit to you...this is what i would do

I could paint that piece for you.. It would look just as good as stock.
