anyone have any experience with them?
I go to ymca now in Markham and pay $48 a month :bang. The Y is also always packed, I don't bother going there any time after 6pm.
My company has a corporate plan with goodlife and its $393.75 / year with GST, is that even a good deal? Anyone have any experience with them? My locations will be markville mall & Steeles/woodbine. Any other gym suggestions in that area?
and yes I did searched, but those threads were dated back in 05 :bana2

I go to the Y right now and yea, its always bloody packed. I tend to go only after 9:30 pm to get a parking spot and actually get some weights done.
A couple of my buddies go to the one at the mall and no complaints from them yet, but I think regularly they're pricier than the Y. I used to go the Ballys on Gordon Baker road near Vic Park and McNicoll, and I think it changed to a Goodlife now. They were pretty good, lots of space and machines, and tons of underground parking.

I'm paying $17/bi-weekly taxes in for my membership, but I wanted to see if I could get that rate or better with goodlife since they're in my work building. Thing is, their rate works out to like $24/bi-weekly.

I went today at noon, Even at noon on a THURSDAY it was packed. Always people using the machine and had to wait, ruins my routine. I gave up after that, went and suspended my membership on the 15th :) I'll give goodlife a try.

I heard with goodlife is that they charge you for everything. If you loose your membership card..they will charge ya...lil things like that.

Losing your card costs you $25 + tx :|
It's pretty steep.
The only reason I have a good life membership is because of the corporate rate I get through my employer... at the end of the day I pay just over $200 for the year.

I heard the equipment at Good-Life wasn't that great from a friend that was a trainer there. I'm a currently a member with Extress Fitness paying $35 per month however am on a corporate plan (towel service, permission to go to any Extreme Fitness in ON) and there equipment is great.

^^
Depends on the facility you go to I guess - they took over several smaller gyms, so they're only as good as those older gyms were.
Anyone have any hookups for a cheaper membership?

I use to be part of Extreme, but the convenience fact for Goodlife worked out much better. Extreme, at least the one I went to, the staff was stuck up and sorta rude (mind you ditzy too). At least a goodlife they are more friendly. Equipment is a tiny bit of a compromise.

Well if Goodlife works for you then congrats dude. As for stuck up people there always to be found especially if you look good and think your God's gift to men/women.
I go to the one at Whitby and staff is pretty laid back...you'll find a couple of them like that but I really don't worry about that :)

Premier Fitness FTW!!!! lol
I'm a die hard Premier backer (Kennedy and Ellesmere). I've been with them since 2001 and every other gym I go to falls short. Unless they completely screw up my billing or something drastic I don't see myself leaving. I'm on a corporate plan there for $35/month

Club Markham @ the hilton hotel on warden and hwy7. Access to pools/sauna/steamroom/and towels are all included in the membership fee. The only thing not included is access to the squash area.

I go to and work at the Markham YMCA. Going at peak hours is a pain though.

I've been with Goodlife for years with no problems. Our corporate membership is about $330/year but it goes up every year, so in January, I'm sure it'll be more.
Markham Goodlife is good. I've never had any major issues with equipment or staff but it could be more consistently cleaned and the sauna breaks down often. Sometimes they are a little slow to fix some of the cardio equipment. It's usually pretty good for crowds - except in January of course. It's pretty busy around 5ish but definitely manageable. It's pretty quiet this time of year.
The biggest benefit to any Goodlife Fitness IMO, is that you can use any Goodlife in Canada. It's a great benefit whenever I travel.
well sometime , talk to them when u sign up ,
they can give u a better deal .... sometime....

check out snap fitness if you're looking for a more barebones approach. They are opening all over the GTA. I goto one now, 25/month and it has all I need, no fancy classes or saunas though, straight goods

I just got my sign up form and it is quite stupid. My company has annual agreements with them that ends every October. If I sign up now I can only sign up for Aug1-Oct31. The cost of this will be $137.xx because they said I have to pay the $50 admin fee which is not pro rated which works out to be $46.xx a month. If that is the case, I'm still finding out whether I have to pay the $50 fee again in october when I renew.

GoodLife is really the only trustworthy gym, in my opinion. There have been numerous problems, horror-stories, and class action law-suits with Premier Fitness. I don't like Extreme because when I go for a workout, I want to WORK OUT and not get coffee, watch a movie, or talk to the pretentious staff about how some of the members didn't coordinate their shoes with their shirts.
GoodLife's the only gym that's never closed down a location, they're 100% Canadian, and they're popping up all over the place. I've never had a problem with them.
Wow, with corporate plans people are still paying around 35 a month? lol
I guess it's cause im from Hamilton, but the cost for me at Family Fitness (who jsut got bought out by Goodlife) is about 31 per month, and thats with access to all locations as well.
Premier sucks lol, I've been a part of almost every gym in Hamilton lol. I hate the gym at Mac cause its packed to the max; the Y downtown Hamilton is just straight up ghetto;
My first membership was at Premier in Stoney Creek, and I guess thats when they were desperate for members so I paid 20/month the first year, then in year 2, i paid 8/month lol.
However, those bastards underwent new management, and they offered me a 'deal' of 45 per month in 2003.
Next up, FAMILY FITNESS, and haven't looked backk!!
By the way, anyone opposed to starting up a fitness thread or something?

I'm signnig up at $45.5 for 3 months to give it a try... ymca was $49/month for me and super packed. If I don't like it I can leave at least in November, won't be tied down.
im getting ripped off even with my corporate rate... I work for a 30000+ staff employee company too

Holy cow, thank god I live in the armpit of Ontario then haha.
Yeah, Family pretty good me, they let me "hold my contract" when im in school, so a one year deal is basically fulfilled in 3 years lol (4 months in a summer).

That must be a local gym being bought out - Family Fitness here in Mississauga (and I presumed all the other chains) were bought out by LA fitness, aka Bodyworx. If your gym got bought out by Goodlife, i'm pretty jealous :P I'm paying about $34/month with Family Fitness/LA fitness.
Yeah probably. I just drove past it on the way home from school, and the red GOODLIFE sign is up WOOT haha.
Apparently they are going to honour the existing Family Fitness contracts; however, new members are going to be paying like 50/month or something. ouch.
