Just recently over the past week I have noticed that only after I have driven the car for over an hour or so, when I come to a stop I hear a kind of like tapping in the engine. It's very hard to describe. I dont think its pinging cause it only does it then, and sometimes comes and goes. I have always used sunoco 94 since I bought the car as well. Plus its a new gas station so it should be ok. Also another problem after I have been driving for over an hour or so. When I shift between 1st and 2nd and 3rd i get like a clunking noise. I just find it very weird that none of this happens when I first start the car or in my 30 min drive to work. has anyone else experinced anything like this. Everytime I take it to the dealership it dosent do it and I dont wanna drive around for an hour and half and waste a bunch of gas just to go by the dealership. if anyone can help it would be much apreciated.
Thanks!
it cant be the pinging, if you have AP, you can use AP to chk if you got any knock reading and whats the AFR reading. it can be just your A/C.

I used to hear a bit of a "clunking" sound - especially b/t 2-3 and downshift form 4-3 - I now have the TWM short throw shifter (which I love by the way) and have not heard the sound since - perhaps it's the stock bushings or something.
You sure it's not electrical ticks that you hear from DISI engines?
You hear this distinctive ticks when car is in idle.

i hear these sounds too when i get out my car and the turbo timer still has the car running. But i don't have the same problems when shifting... i still haven't reached 3000 km yet

Isn't that valve tap?

Thats actually when I hear it the most as well. When the turbo timer is running and im getting out of the car. Now that I think of it, I think it does sound electrical. Plus as 'RX9' said, my A/C is always left on when I get out, so maybe thats it as well. I just have never had this type of engine before so maybe I'm just getting paranoid. As for the shifting I think I may order the TWM bushings and short shifter and see if that helps at all.
Another thing I have noticed as well is the rough idleing and backfiring that has been mentions in some other post. But whenever I take it to the dealership they cant reproduce the problem. :(

it takes awhile before the dealers find the problem. Everytime I take my car in I feel that I'm the ONLY one that notices the problems and they all look at me as if I'm crazy. The dealers gotten me to a point where I think I'm actually hearing things in my head. :bang
