Since I'm relatively new to the Ontario driving system I have a couple questions.

With my current license that I hold in Alberta, I will get either a G2 or a G when I do my license exchange. So I wonder, since I don't think MTO will give you that piece of plastic right away, how long would the wait be?

And if they issue you a temporary license, can I register a vehicle and get insurance with the temporary license?

If this is in the wrong section, mods, please move it.

The card usually takes a few weeks... but you can do everything you need to with the temp one I beleive. Just make sure to have other forms of PhotoID with you :)

Yeah, I purchased a vehicle, registered it, and got insurance with the temporary license. It's definitely a good idea to have another photo ID with you.

For insurance, I didn't even need a photo ID since everything was done over the phone and they just needed the license number.
