Erg! I hope no one else went through this lately!
Ok so both my g/f and I came hometoday to a a message for each of us from CIBC to call them immediately as their is an emergency with our bank accounts. We have seperate bank account's and had seperate messages left for us.
So my g/f calls first to find out that her account is under investigation for fraud :| .Apparently they think that she depositied $1500 in blank envelopes and then withdrew all the money in her account. Yeah, were not that stupid. So she gets transferred to a supervisor to go over everything..She keeps telling them that I had a message left as well, but the woman keeps ignoring her. She finally got finished and told the woman once more that I had the same message left, she finally decides to speak to me.
My account had 2 seperate withdrawls, and 1 deposit. Same speel, account is under fraud investigation..Ok, my car payment comes out today (because Mazda can never seem to take the money out on the right day). So everything is now locked on both our account's, and we have to go to into a branch to get a new card, ok great no problem, except we both work 9-5, how does that work? We now have to go on lunch and explain to our bosses why we will be late.
Next, we had 2 other friends with us, both used debit, both of their accounts are locked as well.
No where could this happen?
WENDY'S ON FAIRVIEW ST ACROSS FROM CIBC IN BURLINGTON!!!
So needless to say im not impressed to say the least, I WILL NEVER eat at a Wendy's again and have no problem not doing so. Now ontop of this I have done work with my father-in-law at this location doing cleaning!!!!
Now the bank's fraud department is looking into our account and we will hear back within 4 business days.
Anyone in BUrlington up for a meet at Wendys?
/end rant

I had this shit happen to me two years ago. Cept it was a ****in Esso station. Bastards managed to get $1800 before TD froze the account. All refunded thankfully.

Same thing at a Petro-Can in Markham. Luckily they caught the bastards on video withdrawing the money at a CIBC nearby. It was a major card ring that has been focusing on gas stations. I had to wait over 4 days too. And the bank doesn't tell you anything because it involves "an active police investigation" - pure BS. I'll guarantee you that it happens way more often than they want the public to know. Pieces of shit-scum. It's highly organized gangs running these operations - so for the next bust in the GTA, check out the last names of those caught and see if you can tell where these people came from, and you'll know which mob.
I work @ TD. This unfortunatly happens. I've even had it happen to me!!! Always be careful with your card and your pin. Anyone, anytime can make a copy (its much harder though if you have a new chip card).
OMG, i thought that they can only do something on credit cards. the only good thing is i only use cash.

Don't take it out on the bacon burger...this is something very common and happens all the time, it's just that were not nailed daily with it. My gf had the same problem but we don't recall where she used her debit card and they made a duplicate with her pin number. How?? Not sure...anyways bank called her up, froze her account for x number of days and then she went to the bank for a new card and a new pin. No money was taken out which is good but her account was frozen for a couple of days.

Yeah my dad suffered the credit card fraud as well.... we went to a chinese restruant downtown and after about a week my dad noticed that someone was spending 100 dollars everyday at Chinese supermarkets and he called the Bank....what do you know credit card scam again.... they caught the guys and the money was refunded.... but yeah scams like this happen a lot thats why you should always keep a watchful eye on your bank statements

You really can't blame Wendy's for this, as they're probably as much a victim as you are. There can be criminals anywhere. You just have to protect your PIN, keep your fingers crossed, and then just deal with this crap when it comes up.

A while back i used to work for an esso ... i had to pick up some nightshifts for about two weeks ... during that time i got approached 5 times with offers to install the card reader crap...
That sort of thing happens all the time ... My bank card got canceled twice and my credit card once for "suspicious activity" ... cash is the way to go
