This isn't exactly what you were after, but....

The OEM nav patches into the front speakers, disconnecting them when it has something to say.

The steering wheel mute button works by putting a specfic resistance across a couple of inputs into the HU.

Probably the simplest route would to be wire a relay into each of the front speakers and use the "mute" output from your nav unit to switch the speakers from the HU to the nav unit.

You can some ideas about how to pull this off here: http://www.the12volt.com/relays/relays.asp

Thanks Nosiycrow Im trying to hook it up the same way the OEM nav unit has it. because I installed a aftermarket LCD screen that looks like the OEM one and using a garmin GVN53 which has a mute wire coming from it....Im just trying to figure out if the OEM HU harness comes with the mute wire. IF it does then I should seeit being a problem hookin it up like a OEM unit....what ya think make sense

Not quite sure what you are saying... the OEM nav does NOT have a mute line going into the HU. It disconnects the front speakers from the HU and then uses them itself.

Hey 2zoom ... let me know if this works out .. I have the same set up but i'm just using the optional speaker for now ... I'd like to get it to mute the HU all together but from what i've read the GVN 53 doesn't produce a signal strong enough to mute the HU when relaying information.

Cheers
