The fun barely even starts at 6300 for me. No Hondata for me, boo. But point of the thread Cobalt > * which is weird.

The Cobalt proves to be the best "bang for the buck" by the numbers, but I'm curious to see its long term reliability. Personally, I'd be going WRX, pure performance and AWD winter fun with a proven track record!

only took two years for some competition.... and GM couldn't get it done with the similarly sized HHR SS so had to resort to their smaller lighter sedan.
At least GM canada has priced it more fairly than mazda did with the MS3. Dodge did as well with the srt4.

why did they switch it?? i thought u got more power out of a supercharger rather than a turbo because its belt driven

I'm sure I'll get arguements on this, but the belt driven "roots style" superchargers aren't as efficient as the turbos or centrifigal superchargers (ie paxton). A 6 psi boost from a centrifigal is like a 9 psi boost from a roots style. Turbos, being exhaust driven, aren't quite as effiecient as centrifigal superchargers, but more so than the roots style super chargers. Its comes down to cost efficiency with manufacturers really. The turbo is more cost efficient, but moves the power band. Its all relative really, and likely just came down to cost. Personally, I'd be going centrifigal supercharger, tends to take up the slack in the lower end, no need for "spooling", its always there. (I did my technical report for my degree on Superchargers vs Turbochargers vs NOS systems... :P)
I couuld get REALLY techincal if you want, but chances are with manufacturers, its solely "cost factor".

good summary, only con to the sc is you are using some of your NA power to run it... takes hp to make some hp and for that they typically aren't as fuel efficent.
But after i drove a supercharged roush 427r mustang a week or so ago i can agree that the no lag is a big bonus, let alone the sound/wine that thing made was pretty sweet.

I like the belt driven powerdyne centrifigal SC.... silent but deadly! (insert pun here if you like)
But, I also have debated a gear drive timing set for my 66 Mustang, just to get that "whine" .... lol Depends on what you like, sleeper or "beware what's under the hood"...

I had a 1987 Plymouth Sundance with a 2.2 Turbo... car went like hell and that turbo whine was cool, especially for a 17 yr old.. :chuckle
Tried painting it "Plum Crazy", ended up calling it Barney... :bang
Never had a blow off, just heard them... never scared me though, I've alway had V8 muscle, rice never scared me much... lol Now, its a different story, 4 bangers have come a long way!! Still, nothing beats the rumble of a V8 with a cam in my world... :hawt

the HHR SS is based off the same platform as the Cobalt SS...the HHR SS/TC is no slouch itself, having lapped the Ring in 8:43, setting the record for its class (classified as a wagon)
the Cobalt SS/TC coupe lapped the Ring in 8:22, also setting the record for its class (the same class as the speed3, which set a time last year of 8:44) and obliterating the old record of 8:40 (also set by another GM - an Opel).
under bob lutz, GM has focused on handling dynamics over raw power and testing at the Ring has become standard fair for all their performance-oriented cars. so, GM didn't really resort to anything as pretty much either the HHR SS, Cobalt SS/TC coupe and sedan, could give the cars in the R&T test a run for their money.

emissions. the SC ecotec couldn't meet upcoming emission requirements; whereas the TC ecotec (with direct injection) can.

i guess we will be hearing more BOV's from the new cobalt since the mod has been changed
Given its price I think I would consider this vehicle quite a bit if I was in the market. 1000 cheaper than Civic SI.

I just saw a 100% stock Cobalt turbo dyno 243whp and 253 wtq, not tooo shabby. Given the choice again I would still buy the Mazdaspeed3.

So 20whp from intake and a tune?
Depending on how pansy the tune is, the Cobalt SS might be on par with the MS3 with the same mods.

I don't have a baseline dyno, so I can't tell you what MY gains were, but most MS3's dyno around 230 - 240 whp stock...YMMV. I'd dare to say that the Cobalt SS/TC can be just as responsive if not more than the 2.3DISI...can't wait to see one modded and on a track...

Yah, but it's still a Cobalt and ugly and cheap looking as sin... It simply looks like a slightly modified and elongated Pontiac Sunfire with a ridiculously large spoiler on the back. Moreover, I'm sure it has all of the vaunted GM build quality and top notch build components to go along with it. :chuckle
It could be 2 seconds quicker than my MS3 from 0-100 and you'd still never get me in one of those things...I feel the same way about the Neon SRT.
The WRX has been largely runined in this next gen as it has lost so much of what made the WRX a blast to drive, but I'd still take the REX or MS3 over the Cobalt any day. Even if they cost $10,000.00 more.
