SO did anyone catch the first episode of the new Knight Rider series? If so, what are the comments on this?

Personally, I saw the pilot back in February, and it was pretty well done, was looking forward to the series. But now that the first episode ran... not so happy. Its like "1980's Knight Rider meets Transformers"... I mean come on, a Shelby turning into an F-150?? I understand the regular mode vs attack mode, but come on... a little over the top!! Hot babe co-starring though! Right into her skibbies on the first episode.... :hawt

Any other comments?? :pop

I'm a big fan of the Shelby GT500, but this show kind of killed the thrill... I prefer "Barricade" in Transformers over KITT in this one....

The show was better than the craptastic movie was... but only barely. At least it didn't seem like a big Ford commercial.

KITT turning into a pickup truck is retarded though.

And changing his name to Michael Knight? A bit cheesy...

you know the concept of bringing this back was cool. But they went WAY over board on this one. Acting sucks, the voice for the car is awful!

This show will not last.

Is Val Kilmer still the voice, or was that just for the movie?

****ing....sucked....i'm still against KITT not being a Firebird

KITTs voice/personality are bland and the acting was shame-inspiring

Val was just in the "Pilot" back in Feb, now the voice is even more boring as 06Touring3 mentioned. I was a big fan of the bird too, but the Shelby fits the bill nicely with the F-bodies gone... Besides, GM has Transformers, Ford has this.
I'll still watch the next episode, see if its any worse/better. If it stays the same, I know I'll lose interest fast. Although the co-star is a hottie....

oh dont' get me wrong....i LOOOOOOOOVE the Shelby in the show (has the offset taillight turn signals like on the ROUSH mustangs) but i'm about the nostalgia when they remake classics

I watched it tonight, and your guys' reviews were right... pretty terrible show. Love the idea of them bringing it back, and the car is still incredible, but not a great homage. Disappointing. Will I watch it again? Probably... :chuckle There's something to be said for hot cars and hot girls...

it's as bad as that old viper show...bad car-transforming effects belongs to saturday mornings in the 90's...

The car is incredible? No... the car is a freakin' cartoon! What's with the goofy blue lights around it? What function are those things serving???

The tv movie episode was decent to watch, but it got cheesetastic when they brought it into a series. I doubt someone is knocked out from one roundhouse to the head, come on now, at least make them stubble to get back up. I have seen better action scenes in cartoons.

What is this doing under the other cars section???

I haven't watched last night's episode yet, but saw the first one last week and actually thought the show was better than the TV movie.

That's probably just because of how much hype the movie got, and how stellarly bad it turned out to be. At least when the show came, I expected it to be worse so I wasn't quite as thrown off by it. :chuckle

I meant the car in the regular mode... Not "Full Attack Mode" or "All Wheel Mode." The Cobra GT 500KR, flat black racing stripes on black. It looks incredible. I'd take one of those any day.

Well sure... but that's hardly what this show is about, is it?

I agree that the GT500KR is very cool, though considering how bad the show is, I think the KR at the end of it cheapens it a bit.

Having it turn into a cartoon caricature of itself though is not cool... or having it magically turn into an F150 for that matter... while people are inside... without them getting mashed into a pulp by the moving parts.

If they'd been mashed up into a pulp... well... that may have been cool. Especially if it was followed up with KITT saying "Oooh... umm... my bad... "

Come to think of it... that would be a perfect Family Guy moment right there...

Brobably last as long as the new Bionic Woman series. This nostalgia crap has got to go, both for TV shows and Movies.

Well, if you're going for a realistic show, then no, it's not good at all. The show is clearly a fantastic (as in fantasy) show. If we want to look at what can and can not happen from the show, then you might as well go back to the original, and anything that KITT did back then, and therefore that show was terrible, too.

I'm not claiming that I thought the show was stellar. It wasn't. I just think that if you think the show is bad because it wasn't realistic, then I think you're looking at the show to be things that it's not trying to be. Looking at it realistically, the car wouldn't be able to transform, with or without people in it, so the fact that they don't get "mashed up" is moot.

I just think that people are looking for this show to be something that it's not. I may be wrong, as I'm too young to see the original series in anything other than reruns, but I didn't think that the original was a particularly "good" show. I loved watching it, and thought it was great, but it was mostly a novel show, and you wanted to see what KITT would do next. I think this show is trying to be in the same vein as that.

The original isn't a great show by today's standards...neither is Magnum PI, Dukes of Hazzard, etc...

But from back in the day, they did the BEST with what they had and made a great low-tech shows from their imagination and creativity...the original KITT had less personality but way more charm...

Today's rip-off's uses today's technology but with less imagination and creativity as they did from the 80's...which makes it a half-ass effort to make a bad show using the merits of an old show while not utilizing everything they can with TODAY's technology to make an EVEN BETTER SHOW! We've grown up and expect a lot more...

for a good merge of today's CG tech with old school acting and action, watch Forbidden Kingdom...I was impressed with how they took the best of martial arts and merged it with today's graphics...ps. white ppl showing up for stupid reasons in ancient china isn't really a cool theme, but good for selling tickets...so I give them props for that too...

I wasn't talking in terms of the graphics, or CG or anything like that. I just meant as a quality show. Like I said, I am not of the generation of the original, but I have seen quite a few shows. I thought that the story lines were pretty weak, to be honest. I understand that today, we have far better technology. What I was trying to get across (unsuccessfully, apparently) was that the show was never a super show. It was a good show, but that is totally based on the novelty.

Not having been around back then, you don't really have a sense of perspective on what things were like when KR was originally made.

Back then, it was awesome. People loved shows like KR, The A-Team, Airwolf, Dukes of Hazzard, etc. By todays standards they were all campy and rather formulaic, but back then people looked forward to them to see what would happen next. Blowing stuff up was cool.

If you go back a few generations before to Leave it to Beaver and Gilligan's Island times, you'd swear that those too were terrible shows. But they weren't. In their time, they were better than anything that had come before them.

And therein lies the problem.

We're now used to the level of depth and intelligence that we get from things like CSI and 24, to name a couple, so this new KR show seems rather stupid in comparison. It's crappy by todays standards, and is being made today. That's a formula for quick cancellation.

20 years from now I'm sure we'll watch shows like CSI and think they're contrived and simplistic. Then, if a remake comes along that doesn't bring anything new to the table... it's going to fail as well.

I've got no issues with retro stuff, but it seems to be better suited to the movies where you can relive your nostalgia, and then it's done.

Exactly! That's the reason people watch old shows now and think they're shit. It's the context and time in which you watch the show that makes the difference in perspective. Had KR never been developed prior to this remake then who knows we might actually have liked it since we would have had nothing to base it against.
