HIROSHIMA, Japan—Mazda Motor Corporation has confirmed that the sedan version of the all-new Mazda3 (known as Mazda Axela in Japan), fully redesigned for the first time in 5 years, will be revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show*1 on November 19, 2008.



The covers will be pulled off during Mazda’s press conference from 12:20 to 12:45 (local time) revealing the all-new Mazda3, the latest evolution of Mazda’s Zoom-Zoom spirit.

Every element of the all-new Mazda3 has been developed for heightened exhilaration, with a more refined sporty ride, top class fuel economy and quietness. Add in a new expressive face and Mazda’s dynamic design elements, and the all-new Mazda3 is everything a driver could ask for in a sports compact.



The brand new version of Mazda’s best-selling sports compact carries forward the heritage of Mazda and the pedigree of the current Mazda3. Since its launch in 2003, the current Mazda3 has sold approx. 1.8 million vehicles*2 in over 100 countries and has won more than 90 global motoring awards*3 to date. The Mazda3 accounts for almost one in three Mazdas sold every year.



Following the world debut of the North American specification sedan with 2.0- and 2.5-liter engines at the show, the five-door hatchback version will be revealed in line with Mazda’s global sales schedule.

looks nice but the lines look exactly the same as the normal 3
it's like they only redesigned the rear end and the front bumper.

The line at the base of the doors is a little reminiscent of the one found on BMW's and I see that they've opted to not put any door trim so I guess that's one mod that the 2010 owners won't have to worry about:chuckle. Also noticed that the flying M is embedded into the hood so no open mouth grills I guess, just total hood swaps to get rid of it.

Looks like a refresh with a new interior. Looks good, but I liked some of the photochopped ones better.

Looks real good, might have to make the trade up to the next gen, now if they only put out a turbo sedan that would be like heaven on earth.

meh...not too sure about the front...thought there would be a more radical overall redesign on this. Plus we have no idea what the inside looks like.

Anyway, final opinion to be reserved until I see it on the street, in person!

I gotta say i'm not really a fan of the new look, i like the design of the current gen better, the dual exhaust is nice but it looks like they took the rear end of the new mazda6 and the front of the new rx-7 and put them together.

Jeremy Clarkson thought the current hatchback was a little too busy (or overdesigned) so I'd love to know what he thinks of the redesign!

I like it...from the side it has some similarities with the present 3....I'd wait for a few years in production before making a move on this baby as the features will increase every year and also more people will be out there with the car for reviews...Lets see how the interior looks like...

That's simply fugly IMO...not feeling the front, sides or rear.

Wayyy too much plastic on the front. It doesn't work with the Mazda 3 as it does with the RX8. The 3 has a larger profile and doesn't have the streamlines of the lower profiled 8. The having the hood extended to the back makes it look like a van...

Whats with the big circle pimple of a gas tank? Aren't most cars have oval or something more subtle?

Rear lights look plain cheap...

The only thing mildly decent are the new dual exhausts.

I love how a lot of the lines (especially the trunk area) is still very reminiscent of the current body style.

Not sure about the exact date. I was only told early next year. It will most likely be after the autoshow.

At first I liked the front but as most of people here have said, the rear lights looks cheap. Now I know what car I will be waiting for next... It's not this one for sure. I like the current 3's better.
