Hey folks,
I've been lurking on here for a few months getting some terrific info and waiting to pull the triger on a Mazda. I finally did last week. Picking up my M3 2008.5 GT Auto Silver from Jeff in a few hours.
I didn't see the need to be active on here until I actually got the ride so now you will be hearing more from me as I will be an official member of the M3 community! :bana2
I'll post up pics as soon as I can but its nothing you haven't seen before!
Cheers

Congrats on the purchase. Hopefully we can see you out to a few meets.

Hey folks,
Being the newbie that I am, I've already managed to post on the wrong forum. I've been lurking on here for a few months getting some terrific info and waiting to pull the triger on a Mazda. I finally did last week. Just picked up my M3 2008.5 GT Auto Silver from Jeff a bit ago.

So far so good, Jeff made the experience quick, smooth and seamless. Thanks Jeff!
The one thing I noticed and I know my gf who also has a M3, there's a clicking sound that you normally notice when you stop and go and it seems to be the A/C or cooler or whatever that keeps shutting on and off. The engine gets louder and that's fine but that click/switch noise has already started getting to me on the drive home from the dealership. Is it something all of you M3's out there experience and just drown it with music or is it something that can be addressed?

Thanks for merging all my posts. I guess I can't edit/delete until I get posting some more huh?
I'll listen in to it over the next week or so and take it from there. I just drove without having AC on and did not notice it so I do believe it is related to that.
I'll keep you posted.

Yes, if you are running the car with the AC on, or with the climate control on or the dial set onto the window or window/floor setting which both use the AC, the clicking sound is normal. Basically, it is the AC compressor that you hear turning on and off. The engine will also be louder and lose a little power too as the compressor taps into the engine power to run it.
Congrats on the new purchase.

Thanks on the congrats.
That's probably what it is but its louder than what I would expect it to be and it comes on and off way too often for my liking. I just drove the car from the dealership to my house and around the block one time so we'll see how I feel about it when I drive it a bit more.

Try turning off the auto climate control if you have it and just turn the dial to straight venting through the main top vents. Do not turn it to window or window and floor. See if you still notice any clicking noise or whether the engine noise is once the engine is fully warmed up.
Make sure the A/C and/or defroster lights are not on...

Here are some pics from this morning after finally driving the car for a bit the day before. Just realized the sun got in the way, crap, will put up some other pics later.
So far so good with car! Love the interior / illumination / HID lights at night.

Thanks for the kind welcoming words everyone.
Quick silly question.
My brand new ride has been a magnet for bird poop. I don't park under trees/light posts or anything of the like and not sure where the hack birds come from (especially on the tuesday when we had snow/freezing temps. Car was iced over with bird poop underneath!!!). I could be just lucky like that I guess. But I've already had to wipe off bird poop 8 times since I got it Oct 10!
I found that my old car that was also silver was pooped on quite regularly even when surrounded by numerous cars, it would be the only one covered in it.
So from this two question stem:
Do birds find the shiny silver the most attractive surface to do their Biz?
What's the quickest/easiest/cleanest way to get that crap off my car without bringing out the shampoo/glass cleaner and so on? used paper towls/water but the tend to leave ugly streaks and won't completely remove that filth. Soft cloth also smears the weather around. I know its not rocket science but what do you guys use?

A bottle of quick detailer.
Its what I use for my claybar lubricant as well and basically, when I have too much bird poop, a towel + a spray of that stuff normally gets everything off quite well and leaves it looking decent.
Its just a spray on wipe off type of thing, shouldn't take more time than soaking up a towel with water..
PS: Do you live in thornhill woods area? the school behind your house just looks familiar lol.

Damn! I have the same problem. I have a silver too and my car is a bird crap magnet....The annoying thing is that it usually happens when I have just washed and waxed my car :complain
