Niagara-on-the-Lake - Winners of the 2009 Canadian Car of the Year Awards were announced Friday morning - but late Friday an abrupt reversal that has angered BMW saw AJAC declare a new winner in the prestige class.

BMW had won the prestige class with its X6. But Friday night, AJAC issued a press release saying an "error in specification data supplied by the manufacturer has resulted in a new winner" in the category. AJAC said: "With the proper numbers entered, the Mercedes CL550 and the Mercedes SL63 AMG were tied at 627 and the score for the BMW X6 was 626."

Mercedes was clearly shocked that their stunning SL63 AMG did not win, and AJAC members have speculated they demanded a recount of the vote.

According to sources, the "error in specification data" came down to interior volume, hardly a significant component of the class. BMW - already surprised that its BMW M3 Coupe did not take the performance category, which was won by the Lexus IS F - was not at all pleased at the abrupt change.

The change comes after Nissan's powerful GT-R did not even qualify in the final round in the performance category, despite several other track tests and comparisons that ranked the Nissan ahead of the Lexus.

Ford, too, was pleased with its win in the CUV category but disappointed that Chrysler won the category for Best Truck in the awards, held annually by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada.

Have you even looked at the specs for the Genesis? It's a V8, RWD lux car.

Dude; price and performance, luxury etc. the Lexus is promising. I'm a Lexus fan, but not going to be biased on this; the BMW should have won. The car was designed as a pure machine. Maybe they liked the feel of the materials? lol I dunno..
But the Aveo is such a piece of shit.

I remember a few months ago a guy had the sticker "Out of a Job Yet? Keep buying foreign!".. and I lol'd at him at the light.. he screamed at me for driving a Mazda; until I buried him in shit for driving a Korean made car by Daewoo.. he almost cried and said "your a lyin' *******".. I told him he should re-think keeping that sticker on his car.. he tried giving me the "I bought this at a Chevy dealership".. and I just drove away..
btw, the Aveo really is shit. I'm not going to input as to why; most should know.. okay fine.. the materials, the build, safety standards.. its just shit! haha..

when top gear, fifth gear, motor trend, car and driver, edmunds, msn, autocar uk all have reviews that suggest otherwise it just makes the whole Canadian review all that much more of a joke.

We get it, you guys took the toyota bribes offered and drank the cool aide along with consumer reports.... maybe thats why these writers will never touch any real automotive journalism since they can't think past the free swag that shows up at their hotel room vs. how a car actually performs
