Okay, I know some of you are going to jump all over this thread, and if you do good, cause I just need some questions answered. Is there a walk through installation for the Hella Supertones? and if there is one, can someoone point out where to find it? I haven't received my kit yet, but according to some forums that I've read, the relay provided does increase the sound, but does not need to be installed since the stock connection is sufficinet enough. If anyone has any pics or info that would be gladly appreciated.

on the relay connect:
30 to battery +
85 to ground (chassis or go the battery - )
87 to the horns + then connect the horn - to ground
86 to your stock horn +
disconnect the stock harness and get a spade connector or just splice in to the harness.

mounting it and routing the wires can be done in many ways so just be creative. depending on your mounting location, the bumper does not need to come off. I have mine behind the grill.
i know this is not a lot of info but i hope it helps. if have any mistakes somebody please correct me, i did mine a while ago.

my horns are mounted behind the grill on the rad support/cross member.
from the middle of the car the wires were routed behind the rad support along to the side under the driver side headlight and inside the fender. my relay is mounted on the battery box.
i can take pics but you might not be able to see anything as most of the wiring is hidden.

86 terminal on the relay goes to the + of the stock horn harness. this will be your trigger.

the stock horn is behind the driver side fog light. disconnect the harness going to the horn.
you can get to it thru the driver side splashshield underneath, just a few screws.
the harness will have 2 wires. black is ground, can't remember the color of the +, there's only 2 wires to choose from :)

did you undo the bolt or just splice into it..

when i disconnected the harness from the stock horn i used a small spade connector and inserted it to the positive side of the connector. you can also splice in if you like. make sure that your connections are weather tight.

There are guys who don't even use the relay and just hook it up to the stock wiring..

For those of you that want to use the relay:

For those of you that dont want to use the relay, the two wires that originally come from the horns to the relay are now spliced to one wire which then goes to the stock horn wiring. Make sure to use at least 12AWG wiring.

I'm going to install mine this weekend and will install them below the bumper behind the grill. Cleaner look without having the mess of wires showing behind the upper grille.

Wow, that's a lot of info for this thread being on for a short time. This is good though. I will give this a shot with the help of someone who is more electrically inclined than me.

what size of inline fuse did you/are you going to use?

The pic is from a subbie forum and they recommend a 20amp.

Forget the relay. The horns draw 6A and the horn is on its own 15A fuse.
Last Hella's I had the relay went bad within a month. There new Hella Supertones are made in India. We will have to see how long they last.
I found an easy point to mount them. Under the bumper re-enforcement there are two holes, get some RivNuts and be done with it.
What are RivNuts? -->http://www.cardinalcomponents.com/fasteners/Rivnuts.pdf.pdf
I also mounted the horns flat in hopes that they wont get as much damage/sludge/salt soup from being in front of the car. Hope this helps.

I was going to post this earlier, but I picked some incorrect parts.

To illustrate YOTR's illustration, if that makes sense; here's what you would need if you install your horns the same way I plan on installing mine. Myself, I'm skipping the snap splitter and will solder my splice instead, I also plan on using the relay.

What you will need:
1 - The Hella horn kit
2 - Wire - in my pic below I have white 10 AWG, but I will be using red 12 AWG.
3 - Inline fuse
4 - Female disconnects
5 - 20 amp 5/20mm fuse
6 - Soldering iron, flux paste, solder, shrink tube and/or electrical tape
7 - tools to install the horns
8 - Reference the wiring diagram above.

This inline fuse holder comes with a 30 A fuse, so I will change it out for a 20 A.

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t32/sagexp/IMG_1267.jpg

Female disconnects. I bought a butt load of them, but you will only need about 7 or 8 (I think).
http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t32/sagexp/IMG_1269.jpg

Partsource didn't have a pack of 20A, so I had to buy this multipack.

I don't have time to do the install today, but I will post up more pics of my install this weekend.

Forget the relay. The horns draw 6A and the horn is on its own 15A fuse.

Note that EACH horn draws 5.5A, for a total of 11A. The 15A fuse on the 3 is okay... but if you install on another car you should keep the 11A draw in mind.

I found an easy point to mount them. Under the bumper re-enforcement there are two holes, get some RivNuts and be done with it. Not sure exactly where you mean... could explain it so my poor brain can understand? :) Did you need to remove the bumper?

He removed the bumper so they mount similar to the pic of Ally's white hatch.

I hope to do mine tomorrow

Nope. But you would need to either have a 90degree drill :chuckle or remove the stone guard underneath.
There are two holes in the re-enforcement near the back and behind the plate on the bottom. You can feel them, I think others have used them too.

From Hellsa technical site says horns draw 6A. I guess somethings are not always correct. Can anybody do a draw test?

The specs on the box say they are 66W each... (66W*2)/12V=11A

Does anyone have a sound clip of the Hella Horns with relay and without relay. People are saying you don't need it, some people are saying you do.....so. That being said, someone, anyone....post a sound clip for I still haven't decided yet. There are too many 'special' people on the road or 'Sunday drivers' as some would call them and they need to feel and hear my wrath. LOL!

Thx and have a nice day.

This may be an old thread I know, but this little blurb helped me so much, the hella horn instructions were not clear at all but this was :)
