The last time I saw a chinese vehicle go through EURO NCAP crash ratings failed...with 0 (yes, zero) stars.

It's all well and good that the airbag deployed during the collision...having the steering column follow the air bag, however, is not such a good thing.

I think styling ripoffs are the least of their worries.

Edit: Here's the video (http://video.google.com/videosearch?client=opera&rls=en&q=chinese+suv+crash+test&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&um=1&sa=X&oi=video_result_group&resnum=4&ct=title#) if you feel like being horrified.

Price point should never be only factor when buying a car.

I remember reading something somewhere, that BMW is suing them for designing it so close to the X5.. good for BMW, cause that is total bs..

and I know BMW wants to sue BYD for making their emblem pretty much the damn same, but the blue/white flipped..

From:

http://www.motorauthority.com/clones-are-perfectly-legal-says-shuanghuan.html

CLONES ARE PERFECTLY LEGAL:

"The Chinese carmaker accused by BMW and Mercedes-Smart of copying their designs has rejected the claims, citing that it had approval from the Chinese government to build the cars as its defense. Shuanghuan manufactures the Noble minicar, an almost identical replica of the Smart Fortwo, as well as the CEO, a SUV with the rear-end of a BMW X5.

Both BMW and Mercedes have threatened Shuanghuan and its European importer with legal action if the Chinese carmaker carries out its plans to display the suspect cars at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show.

"Noble and CEO cars, approved by the Chinese government, are legal products," a spokesperson for Shuanghuan told reporters from AFP. Further, the spokesperson explained that the Noble is only sold in China, while the only export markets the CEO is sold in is in parts of Africa and Southeast Asia. There were also no plans to display the cars at next month’s Frankfurt show, he said."

Just because the government says it's legal in China doesn't mean it's legal in other parts of the world. The Chinese government will do whatever they can to promote themselves (we've seen this recently..), even if that means ripping off styling from other companies.

BMW and Mercedes likely both have cases in a European court, which may have the authority to ban importation of Shuanghuan vehicles (at least, of the cloned ones)

This isn't the first... Hehehe. They have been making clones of other products for a long time. Cellphones, etc.. Remember the HiPhone? :chuckle I think they also made a clone of the Hummer. They really need to hire one designer for each manufacturer at least.

original design was never a strong hold for Chinese industries, they've survived a lot copying other people (yes, it will include bootleg stuff as well). Yet they are either not wealthy enough to hire foreign designers or they let pride get in their way and believes they can design better by themselves.

At least that's my opinion anyway... I'm sure I'll get bashed for saying it.

Terrible. The driver would be dead for sure or a veggie if the driver even survives. The nissan titan crash test was way way way better.
