View Full Version : Noisy
I started noticing that my car was a bit noisy this past summer, siilar to a quite diesel. I took it to the dealer and they told me it was within an acceptable level.
Now there is a new noise! When driving, if I slowly give it gas I get a loud noise, almost like you would hear if you were doing 40km/h in 5th gear...the problem is mine is an automatic.
Does anyone have any thoughts? Is this the same problem I've been reading about with the Shutter valve?

I believe the shutter valve in the intake makes of of a tick of knock noise. What is the new noise you are hearing?

what year is your car? There is a TSB about the engine for older model. If you use the search function and type in "ticking" You will find the thread. The noise could the be the injectors, it sounds like a helicopter from the engine bay. You will only notice it when its idling. If all else fail try to go to a different dealer "Oakville mazda". Good luck.

i don't think he's talking about the ticking noise as i have the same issue lol.
This usually happens when your at a low rpm, going up hill anywhere from 40 to 60. The RPM tends to be landing at around 1800 to 2000.
I know this because i also drive an auto and i get that at times. I'm not sure if its because of the winter driving though. I'll drive it a bit more in the summer and see

The engine ticking noise has gotten louder in my 06 GT sedan, now at 113 000 km it's past its warranty. I took it in yesterday to Lalo Mazda in Brantford and they suggested a piston problem and to look for a used engine. Give me a clearer diagnosis before I go replace my entire engine. I'm going to another shop today for a 2nd diagnosis. From all the threads I've read here the noise is common (diesel-like, louder at cruising/idling, less loud when accelerating). Don't wait for your car to pass the warranty or you'll be screwed. Anyone has any updated advice?

I think I understand what you're saying. Mine (auto tx) makes a similar sound under slow acceleration. When it changes gear and the revs drop the engine makes a "swirling" or "girgilling" like sound that could be mistaken for a diesel if I think about it now. It's not that loud but I do notice it goes away when applying the accerlerator. Orginally, I thought that it was a loose belt in the engine bay but now it morphed into this sound.
It doesn't seem to affect performance whatsoever. My car is due in next month for service so I'm going to have them look at it.

After I had a second opinion done for this ticking noise, they were very sure what it was coming from. They suggested the timing chain but I needed more time to do exploratory surgery. If anyone has had this noise connected please post what was done. Right now i'm just paying for labour cost and nothing is definite.

Sorry I meant not very sure what the noise was coming from.

I have this exact same sound with my automatic. Took it to Oakville Mazda and they didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. I was going to just let it slide... please let me know if you've had any kind of experience with getting this resolved.

We just retired a B2000 after 395K and it ticked all it's life. Some small 4 bangers can do that with out you having to worry about it. Having just bought an 06 M3 Sport and test-driving about 8 of them, we noticed some were noisier than others. It was really noticeable on some when you opened the hood and took of the plastic engine cover. That little item with it's white insulation lining is VERY effective at cutting down some ticking. I was a little surprised that within 8 cars we drove, all under 60K, that engine ticking could vary widely. Some were really quiet and smooth (the car we bought) and some could be heard from the cabin with the doors closed. Some seemed to have some exhaust noise at the passenger side foot well, a putt putt kind of noise.
I think that there are a lot of sound deadening technologies surrounding these engines. They are smaller, work a bit harder and are in closer proximity to the cabin than before so you just have to expect some noise. Still, sounding like a diesel? I would definately try to pinpoint that one.
Hopefully it's not a big problem.
We get a lot of rolling road noise too which seems to be echoing around our empty hatch compartment. That's to be expected though. When we change tires, I am going to get rid of the pimped out 17's and get some 16" rims and a tire with a descent sidewall height on it. I will never care about the diminished handling as they handle so well in the first place.
Just curious, has anybody else experienced this noise variety?
Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has had this problem/ or has a suggestion for me.
The car does this in both warm and cold temps, but it's more noticeable while cold. I notice a noise, which sounds like it's coming from the engine compartment, that sounds like a squeal or even a gurgle. I hear this in addition to the normal engine noise, it's almost in the background. It typically happens when the engine is between 1500 and 2000 rpms, only when accelerating. Once I get above 2000 rpms, the noise vanishes. The vehicle only makes the noise while in gear and driving, if I rev it in the driveway, I don't hear it. I took the car to the dealer last week, and after an hour of driving and inspecting it, they claimed they couldn't reproduce the noise.
Any ideas?

Do you seriously have to post this in every single thread that might remotely be related? And didn't TheMan give you some good suggestions?

Actually DualSoul, TheMan gave me one probably option. I have also done much research (and have a total of 12 other possibilities!! given to me). This as it turns out is quite the mystery, a mystery that is both troublesome and worrisome for Mazda owners.
I will ask the same question in multiple forums if it means getting to the bottom of this engine problem and thereby helping hundreds (thousands?) of troubled car owners!

he's saying, instead of bumping up dead threads to just post every question you have in one thread to keep things manageable... you're stretching yourself and us thin!
if you want to use old threads as reference, that's fine... link to it in your post
it might not make sense to you now, but if you've been around forums for many years, you'll understand what works more efficiently and what doesn't :)
besides, necroing old threads is a touchy taboo subject anyway
