You can always add an external HD or swap out the HD. :D

With Rogers I think all you need is a SATA drive with a SATA to SATA/SATA II cable. I can't quite remember. Quick search on it though found some links...

Just installed it succesfully with Explorer 8300 and SARA software. My provider is Videotron (Montreal, Canada).
Just followed the instructions I read on the forum:
1. disconnect wall outlet from Explorer.
2. Connect hard drive. Power it on.
3. reconnect power to Explorer. After boot, message appears: "do you want to format the external drive ?". I said yes. 30 sec later, it was done.
4. disconnect the power from the Explorer. reconnect.
5. After second boot, I now had a message that said "you now have an external hard drive". And my space taken has dropped from 67% to 25%.
The equipment I bought at TigerDirect.com:
- Hitachi SATA II 300 250GB
- Vantec Nexstar SATA to eSATA enclosure.

I did a LITTLE bit of browsing and it seems as if we can't expand our HD on the cogeco PVR as the SATA thingy is not active.
Does anyone know of any other way of expanding the HD?
is there like a pass thru system, where it goes from PVR thru HDMI to external HD then HMDI to TV?
I really don't know what i'm talking about. LOL :blush

the Victoria Secret show is getting better each year...but seriously, eventho it highlights the best of our breed (hawtest women, celebrities and the powerful), it's becoming a glamorized "dog show"...but hey, I'm not complaining...
Has anyone added a eSATA hard drive to the rogers' PVR? I think that's the route I'm gonna take next...just plug in the back and done.

I heart PVR. Got sucked into it after I bought my HDTV 3 years ago. Luckily, I scored a couple free ones from Rogers (thanks RedFlagDeals! :P) for a couple years. I used to BT everything but PVR'd HD is simply awesome.
PVR combined w/ BT'd shows streaming to my PS3 = ultimate winter hibernation :P

With the Roger's PVR (Scientific Atlanta) you have to get an IDE drive if you want to replace the internal HD. I read that Western Digital is the way to go. The 500GB ones work. I have the link to the instructions.
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?p=665069#post665069
There is a less complicated way to get the HD out. At the beginning of PART 2, you can remove the screws for that vertical bar and I think the entire HD will come out with the bracket. I read it on another page but I can't remember which page.

What kind of external drive do you have? Costco has a three interface (I think) 1TB external drive on sale this week.

For a short time this morning BB had the HD PVR on sale for $299.99. Luckily, I work close to the Downsview BB so I was able to pick up one on my lunch hour. As soon as I got back to work I noticed that they went back up to $499.99!

From what I read on digitalhome.ca's forums, it's fully plug'n'play. Can't wait for it to arrive. 160GB plus an extra 500GB instantly, love it.

What kind of HD did you buy?
Western Digital Caviar (WD5000AAKB) 500GB ATA-100 7200RPM 16MB Buffer
Did you buy an IDE drive or a SATA drive? If you bought a SATA drive, did you need an IDE to SATA converter? If you did, what kind of converter did you use and where did you buy it?
3.5" IDE Drive. The internal upgrade is only for IDE. If you want to go with SATA, you'll need adapter/converter (IDE to SATA cable). For External/Enclosure Drive upgrade; Nextar Vantec 3 is highly recommended in the Digital Forum.
Any problems?
It's been 24 hours now since the install and no noticeable problem yet.
If you decide to upgrade your PVR via internal HD, please let me know. I have all the tools and I can help you in the installation.

nice. I'm glad it worked. I haven't bought mine yet.
if I own my HD box and have basic cable, does this mean I do NOT need to pay any extra fees to get the basic HD channels (citytv - 519, sportsnet - 502, fox - 531, etc)?? I just want to double check. I already told the wife that they're included.
