View Full Version : Baby Gets Fixed Monday!

I'll post pictures tomorrow of the current damage I inflicted on my poor car. Then give the pretty after pictures in and around Tuesday.

Select Mazda is fixing it for me at $200 less than what Carstar could offer, and with Genuine Mazda parts, as assumed.

I'm really happy it's getting fixed. It was never out of commission but the front grille is no longer flush with the hood and it's been pushed back about an inch.

I'll have pics tomorrow.

But whenever Jaimies get posted, his will be way worse I'm sure :whoa:whoa

And yes I know:

wha happened? What shop is Select using?

wha happened? What shop is Select using?

They are using an outside contractor from Caledonia. They assure me the work is flaweless. I only have a small crack in the bumper right near the grille by the Mazda logo. It's probably 2cm. That's all he needs to do.

And I need a new grille set. Which Mazda installs, and it comes factory painted already. So no worries there.

As for what I did:

I rear ended someone two Sundays ago coming home from the gym down Queenston. That was not fun. :bang

So I hafta wait til I get back to Hamilton to snap a few pics.

And thanks Fang for the well wishes. I'm hoping that since it's their car Select Mazda will take a bit of pride in fixing it. Dare to dream I guess. Before pictures coming tonight / early tomorrow I swear!

Just make sure that you check everything over when you pick it up...whats exceptable for them may not be exceptable for you.
When you pick it up also make sure that it is washed, because i had a repair shop hide their flaws under the dirt. (they drove my car to the gas station and fill her up for me)

Thanks Kyle and Ron.

And will definitely be taking your advice to heart Kyle. It's important that my car gets fixed properly and flawlessly. And I won't drive it off the lot if it isn't. Plus I won't pay either. Simple as that.

Now getting a full tank of gas would be nice. How did you manage that one Kyle?

i have no clue, it was only 3/4 full when i dropped her off, but i think that they knew that they messed up on the paint and the only way that they could hide it was taking it down the street and filling her up to get some dirt from the road on the door to hide the flaws.
When i picked her up i didn't think anything of it because they told me that they just came back from the gas station. ( i didn't notice until a week later)

ouch that's rough. Was this the Kitchener Mazda?

I don't know anyone who has gone to my Mazda dealership for repair work like this. Most Mazda owners in Hamilton deal with Mountain Mazda. I hope everything goes off without a hitch but if not they'll see one angry Angela come Tuesday.

Yeah... 90 for the grille set which includes the grille, a new logo (which I don't need) and the piece of fascia, 20 for a plate holder, then 95 for an hour of labour :loco:bang

Then the crack they hire an outside guy to do the work (another 100 bucks), then paint and epoxy, and refinishing.

So yeah, $400.

If u going to pay $20 for the plate holder, might as well tell them not to and just fill the holes, then put your plate somewhere else down in the bumper. more stylish

She_Prime
12-07-2008, 08:16 PM
but for them to fill the holes would probably be more money anyway. For the epoxy, the paint, the labour to refinish it.

Yeah I think that's more than 20 dollars.

The damage being bad... you said it, Kyle said it, Phil said it, Ziploc said it, other people said it.... well I think it's bad.

According to the initial assessment at Carstar (they actually put it up) the guy said I dented my steel frame very minorly and it's nothing to worry about.

I'm lucky I took the collision head on too. The car is still perfectly aligned :)

Wow triple post... I'm sorry... but I assure you this is relevant!

I just got a call from Select Mazda and it was some pretty bad news :(

Apparently the damaged plate holder when it was smashed in caused two big holes in the bumper skin. To repair these holes is going to cost another $200 on top of the initial estimate. So in the end, I'm not coming out on top.

Or maybe I am, considering the horror stories I hear of Carstar.

I just hope my car is ok :(.... the guy from Select (Tony) told me the bumper was off currently. She must look lovely :(

Oh I know. Mazda showed me when they did the assessment. One of my bumper screws smashed to smitherines upon impact. So my bumper up until today has been held on by three screws.

I'm glad it's getting fixed properly. But I am still worried... especially now that there was more damage than it was intended.

if your getting it fixed at a mazda dealership then your likely gonna wait longer then quoted...they kept having problems with the paint on mine to blend it in so it would not look like a fix. most likely they are having the same problem with yours

As much as I realize you miss your car Angela, it's should be expected anytime you bring a car in for "body repair" it will take several days...in my experiemce anyways.Plus you don't want them to rush the job, but at the same time, if possible you should go in and check on the progress...Shops have been known to leave some work to the side and priority goes to the "Big Money Job".

The worst thing is that I can't go check in on the progress because Select contracts a body guy from Caledonia to come into the shop as needed so apparently he took my bumper off to repair that small crack and realized about the two big holes so he had to bring the car out to his shop in Caledonia for the "advanced" work. He wasn't expecting my car at the shop so he's apparently backlogged as it is and he's being finding it difficult to fit my car into his schedule when he thought it was really minor work before.

So I guess I am getting a bit of gas out of the deal. When I brought it in Monday morning it was on empty (daddy drove it all week and never topped it up). How much? Time will indeed tell.

I just want it home. And my bank account to be severely depleted paying for it to come home.

so your saying that this bodyshop guy agreed to fixing your car but can't even fit it on his schedule??

She_Prime
12-10-2008, 05:53 PM
He "fit me in" based on what Mazda told him of JUST the small crack because it was the only visible damage to the bumper. Now, with the HOLES it takes a lot more labour, effort, drying time for both the epoxy and paint which I can understand.

Why does everyone have to have accidents after the first snowfalls? Shitty days for Angela.

I'll just go back to jingling the spare set of keys and hoping it will find it's way home to mommy :chuckle

If I have to drive up on my own to the holiday dinner (there's a possibilty I'll be coming up with Ziploc) then I guess I can't rely on my car to make the trip up there. Who knows if it will be fixed by then?

what 2 holes are you talking about...
are talking about the holes where the license plate holder is.

She_Prime
12-10-2008, 06:38 PM
Those would be the ones. When I smashed the plate holder in the bolts or whatever they use caused the wholes to almost triple in size or so they say.

i would tell them not to screw back into the bumper, and just relocate the license plate somewhere else.

Hmm that's a possibility. I wonder if it's too late though.

My ex built a bracket for his Miata's license plate since he didn't like the position it was in. I may consider repeating the process for my car eventually. I'm going to be pretty slow to get my car up to the caliber of some of your guys' cars.

Just got home and all I have to say is....

WOW!!!!!!

It looks like nothing has ever happened to it. The paint matches to a T and they washed the winter grime off of it. Woot! Angela is a happy camper. I'll post some after pics later tonight :)

Hopefully Phil. We shall see. It'd be nice to show off it's prettiness compared to its crappy accident state.
