Cause it's farking ugly Jeff... Well, at least the toothless and grinning front end is ugly. The rest is okay, but the current generation simply looks better aesthetically.

They don't like it much better over on the TO_Protege forums either. One guy equated the looks of the car to a 'grinning retard'.

Two of the funnier pics from TO_Protege...

That must have been a fun job shooting that video. Get in and drive round and round in the driveway.

Like anything, it will take time for everyone to get used to it.

Why do we need to 'get use' to it? :/

I guarantee they will be changing the front and rear fascias in the second year! They should have just followed the hood lines for the front grill and not made the fake intakes so huge. The lower part of the rear fascia needs to be dropped and cleaned up and it won't look too bad imo.

err... i'm kinda mixed with the new hatch and sedan..

from certain angles the cars look "ok"... i HATE the front end.. that grill and that fog light area just isnt working..

The rear lights are too camry/ lancerish...

I think the older design is much nicer.. i just find it more simplistic and cleaner.

When's the next revision :chuckle

Who knows? Maybe this will be a new fashion wave.
Mazda always had problems with conservators.
Don't like the new design. Maybe I'm conservator too?
Maybe our posts can help to Mazda to take the right decision.

CLEARLY, car companies that are 'CONSERVATIVE' make awful looking cars right? Companies like BMW, VW and Audi. Eww, who likes the look of those. *sarcasm to the max*

IMHO the grille prb wouldn't look as bad if they picked a different colour car. The winning blue is soo over done :gone

To be frankly, I like The BMW and Audi, but more for reliability and power.
When I had question “What Car to Buy?”, I stopped on the traffic light, looked around, and had seen only ugly, unfinished cars . Only Mazda looked well. I like Mazda’s design, and one thing is upsetting to me. I don’t see that Mazda doing something in the technical area.
Nissan have the new variable transaxle, Audi group the two-clutch automat and TSI engines, Suzuki and Subaru have good all wheel distributor, Toyota is pioneer in hybrid engines.
What doing Mazda?

the new hatch is ***in ugly, ohh maaa lord what was mazda thinking, I wouldent want to be seen in the new hatch speed 3 even if it had 350 HP.... and people thought the new wrx was bad looking, I think this generation the sedan will be better liked.
edit: I hope when I go into see it at the dealer it wont look half as bad, but in the vids it dident look to appealing imo

I think we all like our cars too much to accept the new design.

Maybe the protege people thought the same thing when our car first came out?

It doesnt look that bad.. Personally I think it would look hot in black and lowered with RX8 rims IMO.
But really todays M3 looks better then next gen.

After looking at all those videos, I got to say the sedan looks even worse then the hatch! ...I just don't understand why these companies feel they have to totally redo the style completely every 5 years!?. :loco IMO they should have taken cues from designers like BMW and just tweeked the present body style to make it more aggressive, i.e; buldgier fenders etc; ...Instead, they made it comical!!

I honestly like the curves of the sideview of the car.... The front and Back reminds me of cartoon faces.. Front of course LIGHTNING!!! the Back... I cant put my finger on it...

The car does not flow with the front and back.

I agree. This will be another winner. I think it is great they are trying to leap out with new styles and take a chance.

Clearly not the case at all. We aren't accepting cause it's damn ugly.

If it was a good revision everyone would be excited to see it come out.

I'm just not a fan of the five-point grill. It just doesn't flow well to me; the leading hoodline edge doesn't blend well with the front fascia at all; I think it would have been find to move the mazda badge to the hood, molded in like it is already, and move the grill up and make it smaller. As it stands, style-wise, the new grill ruins the look of the car for me.

You work for them. You better like it as them selling these cars is what gives you a job.

I can't disagree with Flippy on the winner comment; as far as value goes, the new Mazda3 is pretty well right at the top of the pile. We still don't know final pricing (or do we? I haven't seen any posts in that regard), but I would expect the price not to change significantly.

I still don't see how so many of you hate the new look.

There are a few factors at play here...first off it's almost impossible for a car company to follow up the incredible success of a new vehicle like the Mazda3 with another version that is as successful and critically acclaimed (especially in terms of design and looks). The expectations and hype around the new Mazda3 were so high it was almost impossible to surpass them let alone meet them.

That being said, the new car (both sedan and hatch) is definitely NOT the most attractive vehicle I have ever seen out there. When Mazda moved from the Mazda Protege 5 to the Mazda3 sedan and hatch, I think most people were impressed with the new vehicle, even Mazda Protege 5 owners. I know 3 people that had Protege 5's and they all ended up buying Mazda 3 hatches once they sold their Protege's. That is usually a pretty good indication of someone's satisfaction with the previous vehicle as well as their interest in the new one. Will the same thing happen with current Mazda 3 owners?

Only time will tell and in the end the only true measure of a car's success is how many units of the vehicle are sold.

Let us know next year how the sales of the Mazda 3's are doing and that will determine whether or not Mazda did the right thing with this car or not!

*Cough* Audi, VW, BMW, Mercedes, Cadillac, Range Rover... *Cough*

Whether I had no expectations or completely hyped up the new Mazda 3, I would think the same thing - its ugly.
