Getting out of the car and hearing a screech.

Is this normal? Usually when I get out of my car, I heard a screeching noise of some sort don't know if its the springs or what but I noticed this on my dad's protege when I have the parking break up. Either that or I need to lose my keggar...

I don't know if its because I cling onto the car with my hand to grip out of tight spots or what but its like a grinding noise.

this might be the hand brake.. it sounds stupid but i notice when i only pull my hand brake up one or 2 points and i get out or in the car there is a screeching noise cause the brake is strugling to keep the car from rolling,

It's quite possible that the handbrake has not been applied hard enough and as you get out it allows movement, hense the noise.....or I'd check under the hood for any squirrels or cats.:chuckle

Two things....if its while your opening the door, your hinges might need to be lubricated.

THE PROBABLE CAUSE....

The parking brake. When parking your car let it roll into place. For example , in park for an automatic, put it in automatic and release the brake. Then apply the parking brake. You essentially putting the weight of the car on the hand brake (usually just the rear brake or brakes) and hence it moves a little and squeeks.

Yo man, this is the completely wrong way to do it! You do not want to put that strain on your tranny!!...With an auto you place it in the Park position, with your foot firmly on the brake pedal~then apply the handbrake fully~then release the foot brake....Never let the car roll in the park position!....just bad period.

Well obviously you don't let it fall back on the tranny, you use the handbrake to actually park the car. But if your hearing squeeks because of this it hasn't been applied hard enough and is still rolling back onto the tranny.

wait so i have stick, so i just let it roll into place before pulling the parking brake, i usually just reverse park so i pull the hand brake then go into neutrel, what exactly does this do thats positve? does it make the hand brake brakes have longer grip for a longer time of the car? i heard that if u pull it too hard when u dont really need to it loses grip after some time, not sure if thats a myth

The amount of wear on your brakes for using the ebrake is minimal. It more noticable than the brakes that aren't connected to the parking brake.

Essentially just yank that brake so the car won't move, problem solved. :p
