the 2002+ are good, make sure you don't get older then that. The 00-01 ones use the k03 and 02+ uses drive by wire + K03-s (faster)

they are amazing little car when they work and don't break down. The refinement level of these cars are a lot higher then mazda's. Depending on how lucky you are, my friend's 02 with 100000km+ has been solidly reliable. my old 2002 was not as lucky, the lights go off randomly, trunk release doesn't work, air bag sensors doesn't work, multiple vaccum leaks in engine bay, bad maf, bad coils, keyless entry drain the battery every few weeks, suspension rattle. The list goes on, I don't even remmeber how many problems I had with these cars. But when the car works its really a joy to drive. Quiet, refined, smooth, nimble, doesn't feel like a economy car.

If you are looking for all out hardcore performance type car this is not the car for you, the car lacks in driving feedback department and is no match for the mazdaspeed/other compacts in the accleration, braking, turning department.

For price, maybe like $6000 ish? I have no idea.

oh because I have a friend thats willing to sell her 02 GTI to me for $5000.00
The car has 2 doors and has 150,000Kms. Its been Lady drivin most of the time. Im wondering if the price is good and if there are any problems with these cars.

price is good, but is it base GTI 5mt, no leather, sunroof, monsoon?

Just keep in mind these things will be a bit more expensive to run then most mazdas. They need 91 octane, synethic oil, timing belt changes. When things go wrong parts are more $$ to fix. If you get this car, i'd potentially budget $2000 for future repairs for it. (which is a huge percentage of the car's cost). When little things like seatbelt sensor goes, you no longer have functional air bags in the car which can be quite dangerous etc.

You should go on vwvortex and bring this car in for a full inspection if you are truly interested.
