So I have an amp and sub and one day I notice that I don't really have much bass. I look in the back and the amp is not on. I went to Keith's Car Audio (where I got it installed) and they were realy busy and only quickly checked and saw that the fuse on my amp was blown, so he replaced it. Now my amp is powered but my sub still doesn't work!? He said maybe the sub was blown which I don't see how if I don't have my amp powered very high and never listen to the volume that loud. They are all relatively knew and high quality components. If you accidently short the +/- on the sub, would that potentially cause a problem?

It might.. Although thats why you have fuses to protect, which is why it blew, I dont see why the subs would have blown..Do you have the right fuses on your amp? Does your amp has more power then your subs by any chance? Did you play music on full blast? Are your wires well connected? sometimes if its loose or touching another wire, it may cause short circuit or even fire

I heard if your sub has blown then it would still work, just sound like garbage.

So I tried checking the wires and everything seemed to be ok. When I pulled the wires off the sub box (I had the battery still on), there was a spark, so clearly power is getting TO the sub. I opened up the little connector piece but can't really see much inside. I don't really want to take out the sub if its not necessary.

the sub wires are not supposed to cause a spark. only the power is supposed to spark unless the key is on the trigger wire is not supposed to spark either. if your amp is getting power like it should sounds like your amp channels might beblown

By sub wires, I mean the + and - wires connecting to the sub. How can an amp be blown, isn't their fuses to protect it from happening?

yeah those wires are not supposed to spark. i am not saying your amp is blown but it sounds like your channels are blown. Good possibility some little transistor is fried in the amp somewhere. If you have another amp i would suggest attempting to hook that up as a test to see if that is your problem. Also with the aprking from the wires leading to the amp id say there is something deriously wrong usually those wires with bad contacts cause popping noises and not woltage

if your getting power to the amp, and the amp is working, then the problem should be the subs, right?
maybe the power wires to the subs came loose? (inside the sub box??)
thats all i can think of...

i diagnosed it today and it turns out it is the amp that is the problem.

Yes, returned it "for repair" because it is in the 1 yr manufacturers warranty. Could take more than 4 weeks to get back.

Still have no idea how anything could of happened because I don't listen to the music loud and it was all "professionally" installed. The more I think about it, I may of had it off for a while now because I wasn't listening to music that loud to notice. So all and all, the sub/amp combo lasted me only about 5 months.
