cp-e engine mount question

I was reading the instruction and it says the contoured side should face the bottom. In the pics right below it, it shows the flat side facing the bottom. Which side should be facing the bottom? the curvy side or flat side?

I think I have the mount on upside down :S I installed it like the pics

i put mine in with the contoured side facing down seems like its fine but i always thought maybe i put it in backwards

I read somewhere if you put the mount wrong side up, the hole will not line for the bolt. So if you were able to put the bolt in, that means its correct side is up.

hmm im confused maybe I should contact CPE then. I have it opposite of whitespeed3, contoured side facing the car & flat side facing the floor. My mount is new and in break in period, currently it vibrates a little more then fobio's su mount.

Their weird instruction pic shows flat side on the bottom and contoured on top.. arggghhh!

The CPE instructions tells me to take off the other metal piece with three 19mm bolts. With that piece taken off, I think I can install it whatever way I want and it'd line up

Curvy side down. The curve is there to offset the cross hole. The way you have it installed, you are preloading the bushing on an angle. You are probably seeing more vibes than you should because of it.

Kyle, wasn't the picture on the CPE instructions kind of crappy so you couldn't really see the curved part easily?

They should have CNC'd or stamped 'UP' on it.

yes they were crappy...and i agree with you they should have put a mark on it telling which way was up or down.

cpe got back to me and said i installed it upside down and i'm putting negative tension on the mount/bushing/everything.

the cpe instruction pics were kind of crappy, but it clearly showed the smooth & flat side of the mount is pointing to the bottom in that pic. The contoured part had different grooves and the pics didn't show it.

off to the shop again tomorrow to get this fixed :/

the shifting & getting power onto the ground improved signfiantly with this mod. I can downshift back to first now even at 40km/h!!! can't wait for autocross next year.

this car's tranny/powertrain response/shifting just went from 3 out of 10 to 6.5 out of 10. Still no Honda but it feels like the powertrain is connected together now, not held by glue.

The Street Unit mount vibrated around 1,000rpm and under 500rpm. The CPE mount vibrates at all RPMs with the majority of the vibrations being between 1,200 and 2,000.

The Street Unit mount vibrated around 1,000rpm and under 500rpm. The CPE mount vibrates at all RPMs with the majority of the vibrations being between 1,200 and 2,000.

I have the mount on for a week already, vibration got noticable less now. It is about equal to broken in SU mount. Still FAR from "stock like".

The first few days that I had the mount, it used to vibrate at 3000 to redline. Now I noticed the majority of vibration above 2000 ish rpm is gone. Hopefully it settling down with time.

The vibration doesn't bother me much its pretty minimum compare to most after market mounts. It does get on my nerves looking for parking at malls for christmas shopping. Clutch in, clutch out, clutch in, clutch out.. feels like I'm sitting in a vibrator.

Give it some time. When I first got mine installed, I was really disappointed. After a month now, the vibrations have more or less gone away. There's a slight hum when idling, and other than when I'm lugging the engine, there is no vibrations

I installed mine on Sat and I get crazy vibrations (as expected) up to 2,000rpm but then I don't feel any other vibrations. The wife noticed it right away though, she asked why the car feels broken...LOL Hopefully after a couple of weeks the vibration will be reduced (like you guys say) as it's kind of a pain in rush hour traffic

That's the thing, everyone who got the first batch said the vibrations were stock like. Not sure why CPE would change that, considering that that was really the only thing differentiating their mount from all the others out there.

We'll see... Based on my experience the vibrations don't reduce by much, it's just that we used accustomed to them.

Drove my car for the first time this morning since I installed the Mount.

I noticed a slight buz when starting the car, and when accelerating from a stop for like 1 sec. On idle, I feel nothing.

I also noticed that the exhaust appears to be louder at all rpm's. Feels like the exhaust growling sound resonates a bit inside the car. I like it!

Anyway, the car feels like a race car. I can shift to 2nd gear much easier now. Really liking it.

Did yours have a black rubber bushing? Mine feels like a horse galloping on start-up so something wrong with one of our mounts. LOL.

the rubber that they used in the first batch was just too soft for motor mount application. Which is why bunch of them cracked, teared and so on. That is why they increased the duro on the rubber on the 2nd batch. And yes it it bit harder than what it used to be.

After about 3 weeks of driving with this mount, I found that the vibration has decreased significantly. I can't notice the vibration I got when I first installed the mount.

I installed the Mount myself with 2 other dudes from our Ottawa Mazda Club (Swales was one of them).
Trust me, it's installed properly and all bolts are torqued to 70lbs as specified by CP-e (used a torque wrench).

There are some vibrations when taking off, but I don't really feel any at idle.
I actually noticed that the vibrations I used to feel when taking off from a stop are much less noticeable today.

Anyway, great mod, car feels sharp, precise, and well connected to the road.
Car feels much sportier.
Shifting is also easier. Not going back to stock, love this too much.
Great CP-e product.

I wrongfully assumed someone else had installed your mount for you.

That makes more sense... I have very little vibrations when the car is warmed up and idling at 700rpm.

I noticed that when the mount is warm, there are no vibrations (leaving home on a Monday morning after my car remained parked in my garage over the weekend at +15 degrees).

But after leaving the car outside overnight, I feel a bit more vibrations when starting the car or when accelerating from a stop. So, temperature has an impact on the amount of vibe you get.

And as Swales said, the vibrations go down after break-in.
