I wanted to share my first experience of getting stuck in the snow and the help from good samaritans.

Tonight around 10:30pm I'm getting ready to go to my 11:15pm hockey game and my team mate calls me at the last minute for a ride. His brother hadn't come home yet with the car. Not a problem - he lives two major intersections away.

As I start turning onto the side street leading to his house I realize at the last moment there is a 4" tall and maybe 10 feet deep plateau of snow left over from when the main street was plowed. Since I wasn't anticipating that I was turning at maybe 30km and got stuck 3/4 into the plateau. The entire length of the car was sitting on top of the snow. My car is on Pro-kits and there was no space between the top of the snow and the undercarriage.

Luckily I had my portable shovel in the back seat. So I got it out and calmly started digging. In the spirit of the season the residents at the corner house were outside immediately with shovels to help dig me out. Alex, one of the residents rushed out so quickly he didn't even zip up his coat or wear gloves! It was really cold outside.

Maybe two minutes later two construction plows came along the side street in my direction. If I had arrived five minutes later I wouldn't have driven into a plateau of snow. One of the operators removed the snow from around my car with his construction vehicle and then with the residents tried to push me out as I reversed. The car wasn't making any progress so the operator suggested I call a tow truck to pull me out. At this point my friend had been alerted to my misadventure and he also arrived with shovels and we both continued to dig the snow out from under the car. After a few more attempts at driving back-and-forth I finally made it out.

As I was finally reversing off the plateau I noticed a white 3 hatch make a u-turn and the driver stop to help. It was Matt Zuccarini from Prima Mazda. Matts intentions are totally appreciated. He even offered me a free oil change from the dealership! But wait, the story doesn't end here.

As I'm driving on Steeles after getting off the 404 I almost got stuck in the right-turn lane to Victoria Park. I did some awesome emergency steering as the car ran into another snow plateau and slid. I can't believe the lane wasn't plowed, especially since it doubles as a bus stop. Luckily there were bus tracks in the plateau so I was able to eventually get my tires into the channels and drive away.

So in the first real snow storm this season I had no trouble driving to-and-from work during the storm but end up getting stuck twice this evening in snow plowing left overs.

In the end, the moral of the story is don't pick up your team mate on the way to the game. :chuckle

Happy Holidays.

It goes to show you there are still decent people in this world afterall!

Now, remember to pay it forward the next opportunity you see arise.

My street is like that too. My neighbours know my dad suffers from horrible osteoarthritis so our direct next door neighbours (both left and right side) assist in our snow removal.

My dad is a pretty lucky man.

That's what I was thinking too. Moral of the story is, "Don't lower your car in Winter". lol.

but i removed 2 out the 3 perches..

:chuckle

so to raise my car, i have to take the whole strut assembly apart again, and put the 2 perches back in, and well, i've already removed my strut assemblies what? like, 4 times?
its not fun, and im far too lazy for it.
and it's not worth the time for the wat? 10 days out of the year that we actually have a ton of snow.

but also, phil has a lowered car. he just plows snow though ahaha. anyway last year i helped 7 people stuck in the snow, it feels good, but when you need help nobody will stop. it kinda pisses me off on that point. when i put the rental mazda3 in the ditch it took me 5 minutes to wave someone down cuz nobody would stop untill some guy in a saturn (thank you btw whoever you are.) stopped and helped me out. it goes to show who still has a heart and is willing to help people

I've been at Total Suspensions on Midwest and in the fall, I was surprised to see how many people came in for snow tire change overs as well as suspension change over.

I asked isn't that a lot of labour and they said not really depending on the vehicle and they do it in about 20-30 mins.

It's good to hear that there are people out there that still stop to help. I must admit that I do look out for other Mazda3 users when I see them stopped and in trouble.

I was walking by in downtown Calgary today and saw a guy driving an MX-6 trying to parallel park but got stuck in the ice/snow mix... Then I remember this thread... and went over to help them push... ahh that felt good
