View Full Version : Thinking ahead to the spring...

Although we're just getting into the swing of things for winter, i'm already day-dreaming at work about things to do once things thaw out :chuckle Productivity at it's finest.

I was actually planning on selling the 3 to get a G coupe, but I thought better of it, with the prospect of cheaper housing on the horizon.

That said, I'm just thinking out loud (secretly fishing for opinions). I'm sort of weary of the 18" MS3 rims I have now, and am deliberating between selling/trading them in for a set of non-oem 17", or keeping them. The dilemma here, is what sort of rim looks good on a non-lowered phantom blue sedan? The 18s filled out the wheel-well nicely, but I found the car kinda struggled on take-off (no, i'm not racing).

I've got SSG's lip + a floating spoiler + eyelids painted and ready to be put on, and i'm kinda hoping that CTA_Patrique didn't sell off his MS3 OEM exhaust (although i'm sure he has)... Any other interesting mods (performance or otherwise) you guys are considering this coming year? :chuckle

Truthfully, none. Have a full year of school tuition to pay.

This. I don't have that much money floating around. So I can't go spending it on my car. Mind you, I have mods that I haven't installed yet. :chuckle

I wish I had some extra income. I want a motorcycle...

I'm guessing the majority loves the warm weather including myself and definitely I'm in the same boat as you. I can't wait till the spring hits even though were in January (well almost there :))

Mods to come: a spoiler for my hatch, eibach prokits and rubbers for my 18s. If I can accomplish that this year alone I'll be pumped up :bana

Try going for lighter 18's. MS3 stock rims are very, very heavy which is why it struggles on take off. Also, the MS3 tires have a larger circumference than stock MZ3 wheels do, which also hurts take off. 225/40 would be a better tire for the MZ3 in 18's. MS3 rims are about 24.5lbs, and I got 18x7.5" rims (.5" wider than MS3) that are ~18 lbs. SO I lost about 6 lbs at each corner. As soon as they were on I could feel the car take off easier, brake harder, and corner better. That's 24lbs total of rotating mass lost, which is a really large amount. Us MS3 owners get rid of the stock rims for a reason...

I personally still have quite a few mods on the list, I'll put them in the order I want to get them.

- mid-pipe and get a cat custom welded in (to complete my 3" TBE)
- MAYBE get the resonator and muffler deleted from my CP-e catback
- colder spark plugs
- CP-e FMIC
- Cobb sways
- BC racing coilovers with front and rear camber adjusters
- Cobb STS and bushings

hmmmmm...

New wheels. Either paint my BBS's to like neon green or hot pink (yes) or just bite the bullet and get my dream rims.
Work VS-XX's 18x8 in gold of course... a girl can dream.

I'd like to upgrade my rims, paint the calipers light blue (or possibly a purple with sparkle) change the stock antenna (haven't decided on stubby or sharkfin) and the bf wants to put a CAI in my car.

That's a lot to do but fairly doable.

im planning on suspension in the spring for the rx8. racing beat springs and undecided yet on the dampers. thats really it. the car looks and goes good enough for me. im hoping to get into auto crossing too. im sure i, more than anyone, cant wait for the warm weather or more specifically for the snow and ice to stop. rx8s arent fun when you are worried about crashing. haha.

oh, and she prime, i would do the stubby antenna instead of the shark fin. they are cheap and they just thread in inplace of the other antenna. i think there is more involved in installing the shark fin ones (not 100% on that, but im pretty sure there is more to it than with the stubby). I put the stock antenna from an 09 matrix on my lancer when i had it and it looked way better and still got perfect reception. the car looked like an RC car with the stock long antenna on it. i still have it if you wanna try it on the car at a meet.

to She Prime - SHARK FIN! looks badass on sedans imo stubby looks better on the hatch backs

On my list... RIMS! 17" stupid 15" i have now i gotta go bigger, side skirts, lip, rear flares, sharkfin.

I think that will crunch my thirst for now

Thanks alhope - that was the terminology I was looking for... Man, I need coffee :chuckle

I'm looking for some more power without breaking the bank, but am kind of shying away from getting headers. The prospect of non-emissions compliant, PITA O2 sensor troubles, and an excessively loud drone makes it an unattractive option :P

Red rims would look nice on black, the green is a lil iffy unless your "on going theme" in the car is green too :)
