Well, my dad just got his new insurance update for '09, which me and my MS3 is on.

This may be very insignificant sounding, but I will explain why I am so happy.

Back in the summer in Nova Scotia, bombing around on the Cabot Trail up by Ingonish I got a nice ticket from the RCMP (my grandma's neighbour, BTW). Ticket was for 155 in an 80, 75 over (just finished passing someone. I know, not an excuse...) But anyway, I was convicted July 14th as I couldn't make the court date to defend, ticket was $395, 4 demerit points, and a week suspension starting said date. I was worrying about getting kicked form insurance, my dad is with Grey Power and so my mom has to be primary and I'm secondary and I pay for both of us, she doesn't drive the car. Grey Power themselves told us to do it this way as I couldn't be primary driver, 50 year age limit. Well about a month ago I checked my license abstract, and to my amazement the whole ticket wasn't there. No ticket, no demerit points, no suspension. Just my 10 over ticket which hits the 3 year mark in June 09 and will be removed from my record.

I was a little skeptical of this, but it proved to not be on my license because my dad got the renewal with no call form the company, no rate increase, everything is the exact same as 08's contract was. I talked to a buddy in the Yaris owner's club who is an insurance adjuster and he said that all abstracts are pulled every single year now as a standard in Ontario, so if the record was there, they'd know. So, I guess I am extremely lucky and shouldn't take this 2nd chance lightly.

Cheapest quote I got on my own with the ticket and suspension and all was $720 a month, compared to the $300 a month I pay right now for my mom and I combined. Quite a difference.

How the F**k could your insurance be $720/month?! Are you 16? (sarcasm)..
There is no way in hell your insurance should be that much man, or you were shopping with the wrong people.
$300 is still a little over-board, but its better than $720.

I had one fender bender to my name, and ended up paying $330/month on a 14-year-old sedan, 3rd party coverage only, that had otherwise great safety and theft ratings...

Stupid insurance companies bend you over real good.

i pay almost $500 a month as a secondary driver for insurance cuz when i first got my license i got a few tickets that will be off my record this year but what is killing me is the 3 cars that had to be written off b/c of ppl hitting me

Damn. I thought me being 23, with a bunch of tickets behind me, and one accident still on my record until January when my renewal comes up(accident happened September 2002), and paying $214/month full coverage was too much.
Guess I got a good broker.
I'm with Dominion Canada btw..

It's also the area you're in, how long you've been doing business with the insurance company, home-owner premiums will give discounts, organization affiliations, and luck :P

Unfortunately, I struck out with all of the above.

I live in Scarborough, got FULL coverage, $300 deductables, $2 mil liability, $300 is damn good for me. I'm also 22 with the one ticket, no schooling.

WITHOUT the suspension and 75 over on my license it would be $500 a month for my insurance. When I was 19 on my 94 Probe GT it was $380 a month for me with no tickets, G2 license, and extreme minimum coverage...Only 3rd party liability, my Probe was covered for nothing if it got hurt.

When I first got my MS3, cheapest quote I got was $850 a month on my own.

Again, $300 a month is damn good.

Well, its the first time I'm the primary driver on a car, and its only my dad and myself insured on the car.
My dad was with our broker for 18 years, still is, but he left Allstate, so we left with him, and he set us up with Dominion. We have had Dominion since July 08, so not long, at all. We have our house insurance with them now as well.
When Allstate saw us canceling after 18 years, they did everything they could, but couldn't match the price.
I have $1mill, $500 deduc. and $300 comp.. I'm in Windsor, which has an ass-rape rate. But I guess I lucked out somehow. Or my agent pulled a lot of strings somewhere.
But even online when I get quotes, they are in the $230-$260 range, so I dunno.

Being a loyal customer helps. The companies don't really care.. but the brokers do.

Next time I'll pass at 160km/h over just cause you don't like it. :chuckle

BTW, I said $720, not $750, and this wasn't even in ontario or even a densely populated highway...

You're a fool if you think I drive like that all the time. I was joking around.

But all joking aside, I do realize how stupid it was to do that and I learned my lesson. I don't pass like that any more. Especially in the city, I pretty much go exactly the limit and everyone behind me gets pissed because I won't go any faster.

For some reason RBC always quoted over $1000 a month, even for my 94 Probe GT. I've told you before in another thread, $300 is as cheap as it gets for me. That's for me as second driver, plus my mom as first. If I was on my own, cheapest I could get is $520 a month. I've done the research, believe me.

I am not sure how the east coast works.

The west coast however, specifically BC, if you are an out of province driver and have an infraction of some sort. you are automatically issued a BC drivers license #. (Cousin works for ICBC, provincially runned insurance)

anyway as for the isurance, $700 ish is way too expensive for coverage. Ever try shopping around? I went to PC insurance and they gave me $60 less per month.

Just my $0.02

Good Luck with everything.

Thanks Speedy2008!

I saved $100 total by calling Belair and asking for the winter tire discount. It was simple. Can't take credit for it though b/c it was forum member 'Matrix' who started a thread on the subject.

If I had to pay that much for insurance, I'd sell the car and take the bus... I pay less than half that at 21... and thats with state farm...

That is surprising. Bel-air gave me the best insurance rate BY FAR... even cheaper now with the winter tire discount (Which was only started a couple weeks ago when I called them about it yesterday.)
