Ok, this forum has made me paranoid about the plastic casing on my oil filter (2.3L 2006 3).

Is there any way to reliably inspect it yourself after an oil change? I don't have jackets (other than the spare).

Any tips, advice?

Only way I know is to crawl under the car and with a light visually inspect it through the splash guard hole...thats what they do at the factory! so they say...also check if you get any oil drops on the ground after an oil change, check your oil level everyday for a few weeks, if level and no oil drips on the ground you should be good to go...just my opinion...
