I really wonder how it sounds and how it is.
Could anyone post up a video/sound clip?

I heard how it sounds when I was up at Jerry's place. He has a clip of the dyno session. He is just trying to figure out where to host it so he can put a link here. You can ask him to email the sound clip to you. The file is small so it can be attached to an email.

I'm interested in hearing it to. If someone has it, let me know and I'll host it.

Really want to know if that really makes that jet sound.

Based on the Dyno Chart on the 350Z off Jerry's website, that sound only comes on until after 4000RPM. I doubt I'd ever go that high unless I'm doing dodging something. I am however addicted to that sound when it revs down though it sounds like the car is huffing and puffing near the end.

I have it installed and at about 2800-3000rpm it starts to make a nice growling noise. I don't have anything to take a sound clip of it but I love it.

What about when you brake and the car rev's down? Does it make that machine like noise near the end?

The machine noise you hear from the clip was the dyno rollers. Not the engine. :chuckle
I just installed this intake a couple of hours ago and took the car for a spin. It's quiet when engine is idling. Quiet like the stock airbox but once the engine is under load, it makes a nice growling sound. It's definitely not like a regular SRI with cone filter.

really? I'm talking about the last 10 seconds where it almost sounded like an aircraft landing.

that's what it was. The rollers on the dyno. Like the ones they use for emission testing.

Thanks for that clarification!! Guess the only way to know is the hear it in person. Anyone who has one installed care to do a mini meet to hear what it sounds like?

I installed mine the other day and if I have time tomorrow I'll make a soundclip vid.
Mine was REALLY loud for the first +/- 100KM. It was like having an exhaust...but in the front. Haha! Like Maxspeed3 said, it sounds like stock at idle, but once you start moving it's another story. This is my first intake, so I'm not sure if it's the same for all the other brands, but sometimes you can hear the air getting sucked into the intake from inside the cabin with windows up. If you pay attention sometimes you can hear it funneling air with the radio on volume 2/3 (07+) driving conservatively. Anything above 2500 is pure beast. It starts off as a growl at 2.2K and than by the time you hit around 5K it's all anger.
I will say that the first time I took it out for a test after install I wasn't expecting much of a difference, but was pleasantly surprised.
Butt dyno approves. :chuckle

I got mine install as well. I was wondering do we need to run it hard for a few minutes inorder for the engine to adjust the output. I have heard that if we baby the engine it might cost the tranny to float in the future. Any thoughts?

Have you guys noticed that the mileage increase after installing the CAI? I was getting 9L per 100k after the install it drops to 7.5L per 100. I am averaging around 115K-120K per hour. Not bad for a 200 dollar upgrade.:bana2

I noticed this when i got my fujita too, but then i realized that i was just not driving "as hard" as i was without it. I could be wrong here, but i think because it actually sounds better at lower rpm's that's why the gas consumption is better. The alternative would assume that more power = better mileage?! (that doesn't sound right) lol

I find the car more responsive & easier to push. It is pretty quiet when cruising around 120K @2800 rpm, plus the sound just makes you want to push it harder. Good investment so far.

Actually that does sound right. Remember your engine is basically an air pump, the easier the air can move through the engine the more efficiently it runs, which basically means that It produces horsepower with less effort. for example if I needed 2800 rpm in 5th to get to 120km/h and now I only need 2700 or 2600 rpm to get the same it means that my engine is working more efficiently. If you were to drive a F1 car at 100 km/h in top gear it would probably get better mileage than any car on the road today!

it's Froggy actually not "Foggy" lol but I'm thinking about I've spent a lot of money recently already (I just bought the car less than 1 month) and I've got to buy/pick up my summer rims/tires from John @ Exclusive on Tuesday. If there's another group buy I'll probably bite the bullet and get it, and i'll be one step closer on finishing all my intended upgrades to get my baby just the way I likes her.

Yeah Johnny, Get it and you wouldn't regret it. The black CAI really makes your car looks great. On top of that, you can clean your filter with ease. I am getting 6L per 100k right now with the CAI!

^^ yo casperwonder u got the intake did gerry install it for u aswell.
for dyno number. S.F.W did it on his car and he gained 7hp and 7.8tq. stock was like 138 hp and 142 tq

Yeah, he did it for me. It is pretty easy to do. However, you have to do it yourself while he gives you instruction. He hurt his back and he wouldn't be able to do the install. Take it as a little project on your car. Anyway, I am surprise that we got some much pop out of this intake. Good Job Gerry!

after your install, turn off the radio and roll down the window. Let the music begin. Make sure, you let it idle for 10 mins before you drive away. Have fun!

I'm still waiting for mine in the mail but have some questions if anybody can answer.
I'm wondering, how do you clean the filter?
The filter is encapsulated inside the CAI, is it easy to take out?
What kind of filter is it (dry, oiled, brand)?
What alternative filters will work with it?

Hi Olestra. The cleaning is very easy as illustrate on the manual. There are 3 screws on the top of the intake, you just need to break the seal and take the screws out. After that it is just taking out the filter and clean it with soap. (when it is clean, the filter will be in white colour) Then let it dry over night and oil it before you put it back in the intake. (Don't over kill it with oil) Gerry recommend to clean it once a year. FOLLOW THE MANUAL! Take care buddy

well just thought id add my opinion on the PRM cai.
gerry was a great guy. he told me how to install it and also handed description of how it should be installed along with a sheet of how the cleaning proceduers go.
first impressions/install:
this kit is really small. about a quarter of what typical cai are. install was such a breezy. u only need to take out half of the original intake to put in the PRM cai. it took me no more than 20min to take out the original top half of the air box and instal the PRM cai. the intake itself sits nicely and moves well with the engine. the MAF sits nice and snug on the intake and the MAF wires has enought slack to move.
Sound/performace:
WOW. this cai sounds simply amazing. along with my ms3 exhaust(alredy deep) the PRM intake adds a deeper more agressive growl to the exhaust once under load. in terms of performance i can feel the car pulling itself more along the higher rpm's, around 4500-7k. off start accel i couldnt try as the rain was really coming down yesterday. im sure there should be a mild improvement off accel.
EDIT: just test the car off start acceleration, and from what i feel its a gain over stock. mind u i have an auto 2.3l and im brake torqueing and pulling 2k rpm to 7k rpm the cai pulls harder than the stock. great imporvents all around from this intake. ill update this yet again once my gas is empty and i start driving civil again.
Overall:
i highly recomend this intake. the price is perfect $200 the install is the easiest among other intakes. the way it is built i cant see it tossing a CEL, nor being a cause of hydro-lock.
i had made a vid on my camera but the audio doesnt give the intake credit. it u really would like to hear it come to the la paloma meets while im their and i can let u hear it for urself.

Go for it Johny. You can put your MS CAI on the left side and PRM CAI on the right side. Double the CAI double the power. :chuckle
