this carproof is confusing me to bits...
http://reports.carproof.net/view_report.aspx?id=C81392A229A81B
I can see it was in a rental fleet in LA, CA... fine, I can deal with it, it's only got 26 Kkm on it and in good shape, i saw it and test drove, even took it to a mechanic...
But what I don't understand is those 3 salvage records and an apparent accident. What does "salvage" on report actually mean? Was the car totaled 3 times? That seems hardly possible.
Should I stay away from this?

Check out the CarProof examples. From this one, the car you are looking at is suspect:
https://www.carproof.com/samples/sample_06.asp
It looks like the car wrecked in the US, written-off, repaired, brought into Canada and registered here.
There is nothing necessarily wrong with the car if it was repaired properly, but unless you know what the damage was I would avoid this car.

What could the 3 salvage records spanning 7 months mean? There's a bunch of records in between them, especially another accident... The car was rebuilt once, went to the rental fleet then had another rebuild? Am I understanding it correctly?

The car was registered 3 times after it was branded "salvage". It wasn't wrecked 3 times, just registered 3 times. Every time it changes hands, it gets registered, even dealer to dealer or dealer to wholesaler... In other words, it was "only" wrecked once.... but none-the-less, it was wrecked, then brought here to hide that fact. If you are considering buying it, don't If you already have it... sorry to hear. I got burned once too, contact OMVIC if you wish to complain, but they likely won't do anything.

Actually, give CarProof a call and let them know. I'm unsure if they will actually buy the CarFax report from you, but at least you'll save someone else a huge headache. This way, CarProof can add that VIN to the registry.
Like Kev said, lots of US cars that have been whacked come here as to hide their previous history.
CarProof=Canada
CarFax=US

Carproof uses Experian for US information, which is direct competition to Carfax. So whatever Carfax will dig up, Carproof will and then alot more, everything Canadian based.
I made the mistake of using Carfax once, pulled up clean histories on the cars I checked. Then I used Carproof, and one of the cars I checked with Carfax, turned up a $8000 repair (I had already bought the car). If dealers show you a Carfax report, deny it and ask for a Carproof report.
I did go to OMVIC about it, but they did nothing for me. Had to sell the car at a loss, but my family's safety is worth more than a few dollars.
