So I called 2 dealership today and they said that they have discontinued the mazdaspeed cold air intake for the mazda 3 because apparently it throws a Check engine light on. I find this hard to believe since there are quite a few people that have a cold air intake, even the same exact ones and I haven't heard of anything like this. So I called another dealership and what do you know they can still order them and install them and they didn't mention of this CEL b*llshit that the other dealerships have mentioned.

But just to be safe before I jump the gun and purchase this intake, has anybody experience a check engine light after you've installed the intake? If so what code did it throw? Did you have any other mods that could have given the code or was it just the CAI? Feedbacks would help!

I've been reading this section for a few days now and I haven't seen anything but if this has been covered and beaten to death I apologize in advance.

The Mazdaspeed CAI for the Speed3 and Speed6 were discontinued because of a problem with the Intake Air Temp Sensor throwing a code. I have the MS CAI and CBE on my car and no problems (08 GS)

Yeah I'm aware of the Mazdaspeed3's CAI being discontinued just because I tried ordering one for my mazdaspeed3 as well(I have both a normal 3 sedan and a mazdaspeed3 just to clarify). I mentioned and asked the parts manager and they said they have totally discontinued both intakes for both cars. This is coming from 2 different dealerships. I called another dealership and they can still order it. This inconsistency with the dealership has led me into questioning if the part is actually defective or if the employees/management at one of these dealership is a douchebag and doesn't know how to do his job properly. Regardless I still need feedbacks from people who have the application in their car already so I can gauge the situation. thanks zoom zoom09

The intake for the speed3 has been re-released in the states, now comes with air-straightener.

Again just to clarify, the question is for a MAZDA 3 GT SEDAN Mazdaspeed cold air intake and whether or not it throws in CEL or not.

Yes, if installed incorrectly you might experience a cel. This has been covered on the forum a few times (search cai and cel). Usually it is a case of the wires running to the maf getting torn / tugged out because they're too short.

To combat this most ppl unhook the wiring harness from the batt box to gain some length(this is what I did). Some ppl take the time to splice in more wire for added length. Knock on wood, I've never had a cel from my cai.

ANY intake will can throw a CEL. I myself have had my OEM Mazdaspeed intake (non-turbo) on my 3 for almost a tear and no issues what so ever. I unhooked the MAF wiring from the battery box to give them more slack, like Jason mentioned above. Unless you run through a huge pond, lol, or yank the wires out of the MAF, you shouldn't have any problems.

I'm pretty sure the only intake discontinued was the intake for the Speed 3. PM FLIPDADY (Joe) and he will let you know for sure.

Install it as soon as you get it! There's no reason to wait!

haha actually my Cold air intake is already at the dealership with my name on it. I'm waiting it out just because our winter here right now in Calgary is still in full force. It's so damn dirty outside with all the snow constantly melting and freezing, so unfortunately I'll just have to wait it out until the roads starts clearing out. Believe me, I have quite a few parts all ordered in (including a GV style front lip, CF eyelids, rear flares, sub and amp, rims and rubber) and it's killing me every single day that I think about how awesome it will be once I get them all installed.
