View Full Version : Hissing sound?
Hey guys,
I know our BOV recirculates and doesn't VTA, but twice now (two days in a row), I've heard my car his...
1st time: I'm driving out of a parking lot, riding first gear to about 3.5-4k RPM and then I let off the throttle quickly... I had my window open and I hear two hisses from the engine bay.
2nd time: I'm driving to work this morning, on the throttle pretty good (60-70%) and I heard it hiss as I shift into 4th.
Do I have a boost leak somewhere, or is this sound normal for our BOV? It isn't really loud, definitely not like when it VTA, but loud enough that I was surprised that I heard it today with the windows rolled up on the highway.
With the stock BPV, it can't that loud at all. Only time I could hear the stock BPV was when I let off the gas at full throttle.
Can you monitor your boost? Do you have a boost gauge?
If you're not hitting 15 PST then definitely you have a leak somewhere.
I don't have a boost gauge, no... Looks like I'll be installing one :) The car is practically brand new, so I'm hoping I have crazy hearing...
Did you recently installed an intake?
To my surprised though some speeds BPV gets substantially louder with an intake installed. It wasn't the case with my car though.

Any CAI will let the BPV sound escape..
If you get an SRI, stock BPV is almost as loud as VTA BOV :)

And No, I haven't heard my BPV until I got my MSCAI

i couldnt hear the stock bpv or heard any hissing noises before my mscai was installed. maybe there is a leak somewhere, do you notice any changes in performance? have mazda take a look at your car.
Don't have a CAI yet... Car is completely stock. The car has felt a little sluggish lately, and top end hp seems to be lacking (Which is what prompted me to look into the AP in another thread)... I mean, the car still moves and moves quickly. But sometimes it just seems like it should be moving quicker... But maybe I'm getting used to the car.
I told my gf that the car seemed slow the other day and she was like "You're kidding, right?" :)
