Hello everyone.

I thought I would make a post to introduce myself as I spend quite a bit of time on here these days.

My name is Zach. I am currently a university student in New Brunswick, and I graduate this april! As a graduation present for myself I plan to buy a mazda3. I am excited to say the least!

I was originally pretty sure about buying a lightly used honda civic, but after doing some research and talking to people I have changed my mind and think a mazda3 is the right choice for me.

So now I am trying to decide on a brand new 2010 3, or one from the last gen. I think my budget could go as far as a 2010 GS, so Im wondering if I might prefer an 09 with more options.

Either way, I have a couple months to decide for sure. I will be heading to a dealership next weekend to do some test drives. I can't wait!:bana

So, I look forward to reading everyones posts here and am excited to become a club member! Thanks for all the great tips too! I wish I was closer to uppercanada so I could visit Jeff or one of the other dealers when its time for me to buy.

Welcome to the forum, I think you should go for the 09's as it is cheaper & less problems. First year model always has flaws to iron out. Just my 2 cents. Happy shopping!

welcome to tm3,

hmmm i test drove a 2010 GS and GT before i got my 09 a few days ago,
for the GS trim.. i didnt notice a diff at all other than the car being bigger, and the centre console with a lot of buttons that confused the hell out of me, and when backing up in the '10 was a lot harder to see cuz the back was just too high and wide. plus teh side mirrors were crap, but thsi is just my opinion,

so i decided to go with the GT luxury, i got a really good deal on it and it's been out there for a while so i doubt there would be little flaws, whereas the '10 is new and first gen, might have some flaws and stuff

If I were buying one right now, I'd pick an 08.5 or 09 GT for sure. Especially since the GS will have the 2.0L (correct me if I'm wrong) and the GT will have the 2.3L. Not to mention all the other extras you can get for the money you are willing to spend. Good call on the Mazda 3 though! Make sure you ask for your new grad discount too.

Hey, yeah in New Brunswick not too much is that far away compared to other provinces. I am a business student actually, finance major with an economics minor.

Thanks for all the tips guys, I love hearing peoples opinions on the issue.. I am still leaning towards the 2010 right now but that may change. I am still considering the pros and cons of each, defects in first year models, discounts on the 09's, etc. I am going to test drive a couple next week so that will probably help me make my decision.
