Yesterday I test drove a 2002 WRX wagon. 100% stock, blue, manual. The dealer is asking $10k for it, I think I can get it for $9k.
These were my observations:
- It's pretty slow off boost, and has a fair amount of turbo lag. Not much torque below 3k.
- Takes off after 3500rpm once the turbo start spooling - pretty fun car. Feels slower than the numbers would suggest though.
- I like the exhaust note.
- The transmission sucks. It's not very precise, and very notchy. I read about synchro problems, but every manual transmission Subaru I have driven feels similar.
Does anyone have any experience with these? I plan on keeping it for a couple of months and hope to break even on selling it. This would be the replacement for my Audi which I just sold this weekend after being offered a price I couldn't resist.
