Now that I bought my new car, I have decided to get back into SoloSprints. (Plus, doing the school in Spring)

Is there anyone else on this forum that is also planning on participating this year?

When I used to track my Protege (modified slightly), I used to be under T2. With the stock Mazdaspeed3, I'll be in GT1...holy chow!!! This is going to be interesting.

I'd like to but I don't think I can commit to running a full season...what are some of the costs involved (series registration, safety reg's?)? got more info?

There is a lot of good info here:

Hey Jeremy. I knew you'd have to find an outlet for that MS3. My original plan was to do SoloSprints and the CSCS Time Attack series when I finally got a Miata, but I can't run without a roll bar which means more expense (understandably) however I'm going to talk to CSC racing when we are at the open house about cost. With my current mods and planned mods, I would be in SGT3! I guess they consider a modded MX-5 a good track car. :)

I heard that you don't need a roll bar to do the school though, not sure if this is true so I might consider it. I had a great time with the MS6 at the school in 2007. Despite my off track excursion.

Thanks for the link...seems to be quite a bit of events @ DDT...do you know where I can find some lap times for GT1 from 2008?

The Solo 1 Series is expensive guys.

Minimum of events only prepaid at Open House was 1370.
If you include the test and tunes and schools: 2665

Otherwise it's more

While I agree it is a lot out of pocket, you do get a lot of track time and a lot more events on a variety of tracks than you do with the CSCS time attack series. The CSCS classing is much simpler though and more mod friendly. Both have their advantages and disadvantages and we are lucky to have both series available to us.

That's what I thought when I did the research this time last yr...I even went thru the classification website and then realized that it's very difficult for my lightly modded MS3 to be competitive...last I checked, we're in the same class as a Audi S4, I believe...lol...

But I'd still love to run it in a MX5/Miata...or something more competitive, down the road...

Fobio,

It only gets expensive if you make it expensive. True the event fee's may be more, but you don't need to go crazy on mods to be competitive. My best advice I can give to anyone is to take the school's. Developing drivers skill on the track is what makes any car going fast.

I remember the SoloSprint Champ (Chris P) drove my Protege (1.6L) and kept up to a 350Z's and S2000's with no effort. I was in awe!!

Taking the SoloSprint school (and other schools available) is what helps take YOU the the car's limit.

Steve- Are you going to take any of the the schools this year with your Miata?

Good point, I may do only the schools ;)

It's all about track time. But in the end, Gas + brakes + tires + (anything that breaks) + Fees = to around 6-10 thousand a year budget.

17in R-comps aren't cheap and spending 800$ a month on gas ain't no good either.

And that's not modding the car...

Sorry guys, very new to tracking and was just looking at the forums to gather more information.

What are these "schools" you speak of?
Do they happen every track day?
How much?

I may do a few in my Mustang - don't think the wife would want me to hit the track in the Mazda!!

+1 to doing some schools. Decent track time and you can never stop learning. I did the Ian Law school two years ago and hope to do Hansens this coming summer.
