My windshield has been cracked for a year and it grew from almost directly in front of steering wheel all the way to the right side. The windshield also has 2 small stone chips and another crack from some crap falling off a truck on the 401.

So I got it done today! I used Speedee based on this thread post #12: http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=20132&highlight=replace+windshield
It was $300 cash for OEM class. Petro was a nice guy and it looks great so far, but I will wait a few hours for it to dry first! (thanks MAZDA Kitten)

+1 for Pedro at Speedee Gonzalez Auto Glass. My '05 Sport GT got a stone chip and a 7" crack the other day so I wanted it replaced ASAP as it seemed to grow 1cm a day. Pedro came to my work and replaced it during my lunch hour for $300 cash (OEM wnidshield with rain sensor). My insurance deductible for comprehensive claims like this would be $500 so it just made sense to do it out of pocket.

Here's a scan of his business card found on another thread:

As a suggestion, perhaps a mod or OP could edit the subject to add the name of the company, since this is in the service review section?

J-WO, I also need to get my windshield replaced as I have a nice 10" crack along the bottom centre. How long did it take to get the glass installed and how long before the glue dries enough so as to drive the car without breaking the new seal? Did you get the moulding replaced? Any new squeaks or rattles? Thanks.

They told me it should only take 30 minutes but for me it was more like 45 mins to an hour, only because after they removed the windshield they had to wait for their guy to deliver the new one. I think Pedro usually has all the windshields he needs for the day in the back of his van but he squeezed me in at the last minute and bumped somebody out of their appointment, so that's probably why. The OEM windshield comes with new molding attached and they do add a layer of black glue/caulk underneath. No squeaks or leaks, just tested the rain sensor by spraying some windex on it and it worked like a charm!

In case anyone's interested, here's a picture of the windshield logo:

Does the molding around the top of the windshield now sit slightly higher than stock?

I notice most repairs can be determined by looking for this height difference.

hmmm not too sure what you mean by that SonicBoy, never took notice what the molding on the stock looked like. By all intents and purposes my windshield looks like brand new, better even in fact. I think my old '05 windshield might have been a different make (PPG perhaps?), this Sekurit glass looks really great

Next time you park near one, take a look. I can't provide a pic as I no longer have my 07. There's nothing wrong with it, just curious how good it came out.

Best way to describe it is that when the old windshield was cut out a small amount of sealant say 2mm was left behind to adhere the new sealant to rather than down to the metal. I believe it has something to do with the removal process and cutting down to the metal which may rust due to the moisture in the area.

hmmm can't seem to edit posts, but wanted to say mine is the dark blue M3, stock is the silver. As you can see there is practically no difference between the two.

Had Pedro install my new oem windshield ($300 cash) 2 weeks ago and all I can say is, he did an excellent job. He and his partner were done in under 45 minutes and they came to my condo as well. He stated that if I had any stress cracks, that he would replace it free of charge. One happy camper. Everyone should give Pedro a call, Highly recommended. :bana2:bana2

I'm glad everyone has had a great experience with Pedro
I cant say enough good things about him and no one can beat his prices. I've had mine for 2 years now and its great (no leaks/cracks)

I'll keep him in mind so when the time comes I'll give him a call. My windshield has too many stone chips and scratches from the oem wipers. $300 installed is a very good price!

And he comes to your home or work, no extra charge. I'd say, do it before the cold weather sets in.

Just out of curiosity, what do you guys mean when you say "OEM"? As in, he buys it from Mazda? Or that he buys it from a supplier which manufactures the glass to OE spec?

Seems like a great price for someone who comes out.. Good stuff you got it fixed though; it was a safety hazard to yourself while it was cracked.

Mazda doesn't manufacture their own glass, they have an outside supplier make it for them. Pedro gets his glass from a supplier that buys manufactured oem glass made to Mazda's specification.

No I completely understand this part. I know there is a manufacturer that makes it for Mazda to their spec, I just wanted to see what people would respond with.. :chuckle

The use of OEM is thrown around so much these days.
I also noticed in the pictures J-Wo posted, the factory glass is stamped Sekurit, as in all of our cars. I wonder if the new "OEM" glass being installed is of the same grade. There is no tag label on J-Wo's car. Unless Pedro gets it from Sekurit without their name on it? This would end up being cheaper and he passes the savings onto the customers?

I remember when I had the glass installed in my P5 at Krown, they used Pilkington glass. It was better then the OEM since it didn't pit as easily and had the blue anti-glare tint embedded into the glass as well.

OK. This is not OEM glass.
I was confused there for a minute.
Third party parts are not OEM even if they are made to the manufacturers spec.

you'll see the glass says "Saint-Gobain Sekurit", which is the OEM manufacturer for glass on the 3.

the windshield could very well be OEM, it just didn't go through all the middlemen up to Mazda pricing.
