After the server move, it would be very nice if you could look into some options so the forum is usable on our mobile devices. I did some poking around on http://vBulletin.org (http://vbulletin.org/) and it seems there is some decent solutions.

It would be great if something like this working: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=173239 detect a mobile device and force a style.

But it would be good enough just to have a mobile style installed so we can link to it like this http://forums.ilounge.com/index.php?styleid=7 and have something lightweight and very functional.

I can't seem to find a version that is compatible with VB 3.8. If someone knows of one, let me know.

http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=173239&page=15 <-- post #211 says it would work on 3.8.1

Of course I don't have a mobile device (yet) so won't know for sure. But if I had one, I'd try setting up a test environment to see if it would work...

Blackberry Bold 9000

The full site or the stripped down archive version? there is a big difference in capabilities and features.

yesterday i noticed that my blackberry (or the new site) didn't allow me to do PM but i could go on the forum and surf around and i believe it was the stripped down version.

One thing to note though...and this is just from what I've heard since I don't have one...but the Blackberry Bold (9000) has a full browser that shows things as the site was made...however most other blackberry phones have the browser like you would see on a cell phone. Stripped down.

I could be wrong...but this is what I've heard.

On my BB 8830, I can view the full forum. It is a little slow,b ut works fine.
That said, I'll still try and install this, just to see if people prefer it.

I am running Safari on the iPhone and the full site works fine. It's a bit slow but ok. An iPhone app would be best!

Yeah it works, mostly i run into some problem on my iphone using the Quick Reply and such, but really a properly formatted mobile style like i've seen on other boards just makes it perfect and much lower bandwidth so quicker.

Look at the ilounge link on your iphone and see the difference, speed and features and no zooming in and out all the time to see things...

Seeing the site is not the issue. You will all obviously be able to see the site if you're using a full HTML mobile browser. The request is to have a mobile browser specific version of the site like Crackberry's for example.

It's essentially this site formatted to cater to mobile devices. Rather than side scrolling all over the place to see the different portions of the page like you currently have to do.

I can see the site perfectly fine on my storm but there is a lot of unnecessary scrolling that would be eliminated with a mobile version.

Ami - Can you lock the thread I started since this one exists. Thanks man

Yea that would be great.. Its just tedious scrolling all the time.. It would be nice to just scroll down to read the posts.

I tried installing the plug in last week, but it conflicted with another tool we use. I'm trying to find a solution.
Stay tuned.

Hey Ami,
the mazda3forums.com they have a html style forums i guess as apposed to a full out content and that works really well. The tm3 site often crashes and freezes up on me on my BB not showing the proper content. I have learned how to cope with it but it is ver annoying to say the least lol

For those that have asked, I have installed a mobile style template. Your iphone/BB/other device will automatically use this style. You should notice things load much more quickly.
Please let me know of any problems.

My first post from a blackberry. Overall it seems to work well. Logged in without any issues. It loads relatively quickly. I could live without all the graphics and formatting but I think that would be a nightmare to program.

It wouldn't be easy to convert it to look like something like m.crackberry.com (viewed on a blackberry) right?

But yeah, I'm enjoying the mobile version. It functions just like on a browser.

hmmm... still looks like a normal web page when viewing from my bold... Images, sigs etc are all displayed. I set the browser to be identified as Blackberry, so not sure what exactly i'm supposed to be seeing (or not seeing).

it should look identical on your device. It just automatically adjusts image sizes, etc. The software automatically detects you have a BB, or iphone, and adjusts your viewing options.

Hey Ami, a lot of times when i try to get my PM's on my BB it freezes on me and i have to go back a reselect it.

not sure about that, as I haven't encountered that before. One thing I can think of is the system auto prompts you to open the PM's in a new window. The BB is not capable of multiple windows. Thus, when you login, and are prompted, ensure you select cancel, and manually navigate to your PM's.

+1 for BlackBerry optimized views :)

Someone needs to make a "vb" app for BB...
