Toyota clocked at 194 km/h on Highway 410

ctvtoronto.ca
Ontario Provincial Police have charged a teenage driver from Brampton with driving at 194 kilometres per hour on a 400-series highway.
The 17-year-old male driver was stopped by police at about 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday night, near Queen Street on Highway 410. The posted speed limit was 100 kilometres per hour.
He was charged with stunt driving, having more than a zero blood alcohol concentration with a G2 licence and with consuming liquor underage.
The Toyota Avalon that he was driving was seized for a week and his driver's licence suspended for the same period of time, as a result of street racing legislation.
Const. Graham Williamson said that if the driver is convicted of stunt driving, he will face a fine of between $2,000 and $10,000, as well as a driver's licence suspension.
Recent high-speed incidents
Police have charged several drivers with driving at excessive speeds in recent weeks.
Earlier this month, the OPP charged a driver who was travelling through north-end Toronto on the southbound Highway 400 at 250 kilometres per hour.
In February, a provincial police officer was stopped for driving 65 kilometres over the limit on Highway 403 in an unmarked vehicle after police determined the officer "was not within the lawful execution of her duties at the time."
On Jan. 9, an Aurora man was charged with driving a Mercedes Benz SL600 at 231 kilometres per hour along the northbound Don Valley Parkway, where the speed limit is only 90 kilometres per hour.

IIRC the driver of the G35 got charged with "excessive speeding" while this teenager gets charged with "street racing" - how dumb
I just moved back to Brampton and am royally pissed at my insurance rates because of idiots like this!

I ain't defending this guy...but I drive on the 410 everyday to and from work.
People go 140km/h easily on the 410...in fact you better be going 140km/h if you're in the left lane or else you will get flashed.
This guy went overboard tho.

The dumb kid deserves it tho how his dady wont let him drive for a while and lesson learned.
i hope he gets fined for the maximum amount and received max punishment.
i drive on the 410 to get home and i don't want to have anyone near me driving like that.

drinking and driving, speeding w/ a G2 license, 17 yrs old. this is not even in the same league as the G35. I'd say this had the potential to have been a much much worse incident.

This stupid kid just messed up his entire driving life until he's 30!! No one will ever insure him and it'll take him eons to pay his fine off with his (assuming) crappy minimum wage job!
People like this just irk me!
If my son ever did that I don't care if his license was suspended for a week by the government. I'd suspend it for much longer!

I think what bothers me more than the speed he was going is that he was also drinking. :loco
Also, at 17 years old and next to no driving experience is an accident waiting to happen. I really hope that he is charged and any insurance company charges him through the nose so that he can never afford to drive for years.
What really bothers me is that the Avalon can go faster than the 3...
Oh well, the times of testing the 3's limits are long past, esp since the 50 over rule...
The difference IIRC between Stunt driving and street racing is that in stunt driving you're by gunning it by yourself, in street racing there must be 2 cars...

err the Avalon is a class above the Camry/Mazda 6/Accord, not to mention the Mazda 3.
errr you can still test the 3... something called a race track.

Where can I find a track that can get me to 188 in a minute or so in a straight line? (2.0 Auto hehe)
Maybe downsview :)
But srlsy, they should limit all cars at the same speed, then racing on highways would become pointless if nobody can go faster...

He'll get off with a slap on the wrist with a good lawyer. He will claim the defense of being intoxicated (seems its much less of a punishment than stunting), stating that if he wasn't under the influence of alcohol, he would have been in a right state of mind and would have not acted the way he did if he was sober.
Pay a few thousand dollars for lawyer and fee's, a week suspension, have a nice day.
The law is great these days for idiots like this.
It does however seem to me its much worse to be caught stunting or street racing than it is to be caught while driving intoxicated.
By the way, I'm not defending this guy either, but at one point or another, we have all pulled something out of the box and driven over the speed limit by some margin.

Avalon is a really nice car. I dont know why u guys bashing the car. Its the driver you are mad at. Avalons cost way more than our mz3s. You guys are comparing your entry level mazda with the highest level toyota sedan. Cant comppare those, they are very luxurious. I've been in an older one and i have to admit theres power in those things.
Back to this guy tho, pretty stupid. But when you are young you do do stupid stuff. Hes still in the stage of learning and experiencing things. He just learned the that he wont be able to drive for a LONG time and will experience busing until hes like 40 haha. Pretty stupid if teens nowadays

Wow Mommy is gonna be pissed to have have to take the bus for a week!
I find it funny how these incidents are deemed newsworthy in Canada. One guy speeding and it's all over the news. I'm sure it happens down here in the US too - but I don't read or hear about it. It's almost as if the media is reporting such incidents to blow it way out of proportion and propagate the draconian 50 over "stunting" or "street racing" legislature. I don't agree with the kid's actions, but I think the law is even stupider.
