Is anyone else getting hit with this BS? Cutbacks, lack of hours, lay offs ... I'm about to loose it. I'm a college grad (graduated back in 2005) of policing ; I'm currently working Hospital Security part time till I can get on to Corrections or O.P.P . I was making great money, nothing too much but around $2400-$2600 a month with OT (decent hourly wage since its security). Now because of cutback I'm getting 24-48 hours a pay and barely making $700 if that. With car payments, rent, debts, food. I can't live. I'm trying to get a part time job any where just so I can survive. If you have a secure job and guaranteed no cutbacks you’re lucky. Is anyone else getting hit with this? It sucks this happened to me as well as my sister who is a physiotherapist. She was layed off with no notice, and she was making $95,000 a year to nothing. I'm seeing people in the medical field get walked out, and pretty much kicked to the curb. Rumor has it our economy is going to be like this till late 2010. Sorry for venting it just feels like every time I take one step ahead I keep taking three back. If anyone else is in a similar situation feel free to talk about it. I keep feeling like I’m the only one getting hit.

And some people wonder why I smoke and drink lol.

I hear you...but as a financial advisor, I'd suggest cutting down on the drinking and smoking to save few bucks...will also save you $ on medical bills.

I said cut down, not quit...I'm no angel myself. =)

lol true , and with all of this I have ... but what can you do? Today just isn't a job market.... and if you do get a job it's minimum wage which isn't enough to survive. People today work hard for what they earn, I just hate seeing 6 people layed off when I have 9 senior managers for a dept , and 6 supervisors for one department.... just doesn't seem fair to let the people who work hard get let go and they (managers) get to kick back and let the good times roll .

I'll work a minimum wage job, I'll do what it takes to survive , but seriously it's frustrating and hard. It's life right, bitching about it will only get me so far, it's taking action that will accomplish something.

You are not alone, I have changed jobs twice in last year. I am in a targeted market though: auto dealers. People fly off here pretty quick.

It is kind of scary to see and hear what's going on out there. Being in the Armed Forces we are somewhat sheltered as to what the job market can be like on the "outside". I feel very fortunate.

Some friends of mine have been laid off and even moved out to Alberta to work in the oil industry there. Only to get laid off there and bounce around. Scary times.

who said life is fair. atleast you were not laid off...

on my part my company is not getting contracts anymore than they used to. so what i do, i take more work which is beyond my responsibilities and fast tracking work/projects to maximize company's potential profit. i make more of myself an asset to the company and set aside my complains and whatnot.

but im in the industry which is too volatile at the moment, good thing my company is doing something about it and realigning themselves to get into government infrastructure projects.

times are getting tough, we gotta hold on what we have, so i guess your modding days are over for now and so for the mean time, tighten up the belt and somehow save up:)

I'm in construction. That's all I really need to say. :chuckle I'm cut back to 4 days a week, sometimes 3. Also, that auto detailing part time I started, I just quit that. The owner is an unreliable d***weed.

My company has a new job that was supposed to start 2 weeks ago. Once that gets started we'll all be back to 5 days a week. I can't go on vacation this year because of all this crap, though. I'm kind of frustrated but there's nothing I or anyone else can do but work the hardest I can and hope for the best. Both of my bosses are the two company owners. I was talking to one of them today and he said both his and the other boss's pay cheques were literally cut in half. My bosses are giving more hours to us lower level workers, and a lack of job sites at the moment also means they get less of the company profit as well.

My other half is losing hours, they've already laidoff about 70 employees in her building. Sister-in-law and her husband both got laid off their jobs last year, both are now employed. I'm still quite secure in a unionized enviroment with about 14years seniority, but the whole company has been tightening it's belt. Newer employees with under two year have so far been laid off.

I'm not personally affected as i've got a garunteed 2 year paid internship with the Govt.

But i can tell you this much... working in oshawa and with this harmonization thats coming down the pipes i'm going to be partly responsible for either moving people to the feds, or arranging alternative work/layoffs..

A lot of people in Oshawa are facing tough times, especially with GM being in the region, and now atleast 600-1100 people being affted by tax harmonization on some way..

towlsnap, you're right.. its the workers that get shafted while managers/directors keep raking it in.. but thats corporate culture for you..

It's not just the lower guys affected. My dad said at TD they have been losing project managers and upper management people for a few years now. My dad heads one of the teams that keeps one part of TD bank's mainframes up and working properly. Maybe turning down advancement to project manager 15 or so years ago has saved his job in the long run. he's been there almost 28 years now.
