While Yamanouchi would not confirm an exact launch date, sources suggest the Mazda2 would go on sale within the next year. It is designed to compete against the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Accent and Chevrolet Aveo, among others.
The Mazda2, of course, is the foundation for the Ford Fiesta already on sale in Europe and other markets. The Fiesta is due at a 2011 model. Yamanouchi said Mazda has wrestled with the decision to add the subcompact to the Mazda Canada's lineup.

I love the way it looks and it isnt huge like the 3. Ill definitely be getting a mazdaspeed 2 if they ever release one. Either that or Id just buy a normal 2 and turbo it. I love small cars like that.

I sat in the Mazda 2 in Mazda headquarters in Hiroshima (ironically the same green paint scheme) and it's definitely a small car.

I would buy one though to have as a city runabout.

It's small, but I fit in it fine.

A relative is about to pull the plug to a 3DR Accent Sport, but I'm pretty sure a Mazda2 could pull her over. She did her University Degree in the UK and owned a Fiesta there. All manual and small hatches there, and with that one of the fastest shifters I've ever seen, its scary lol.

This just in: that fantabulous little Mazda we've admired from afar for the past couple years, the Mazda2 (also known as the Demio in Japan), is coming to all of North America, the U.S. included. President and CEO of Mazda's North American Operations Jim O'Sullivan has just told the automaker's top dealers that the diminutive Mazda, which shares its platform with the also incoming Ford Fiesta, will go on sale in the U.S. around the end of 2010. That's just about the same time that the Mazda2 will go on sale in Canada, as well.

O'Sullivan cites the changing tastes and attitudes of consumers towards smaller cars as shifting the business case in favor of selling the Mazda2 here in the States below. While no other information was given, dealers were told they can expect to see the North American-spec Mazda2 debut later this year at the 2009 LA Auto Show.

What this means for Ford and the similar-in-almost-every-way-but-styling Fiesta remains to be seen. Knowing that the Mazda2 is on its way, would you reconsider buying a Fiesta in favor of test driving the same thing with a little extra Zoom Zoom?

its ok, nicer than the yaris or versa. that car is waaay to small for me, the 3 is small enough. 1.5L with like 100hp, again the 3 is barly enough for me.
