Shame since this car was near the top of my list of cars to buy. Short Version: there are issues with spun bearings in the 2009 WRX, which leads to having to replace the engine Source: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1648372

that truly sucks...but you know, when you make 30 - 50,000 cars, some are bound to fail...just hope it'll remain in small numbers.

I've been following that post on NASIOC for some time. The 265 is the car I was going to buy this winter, but that post has kept me from committing.

I may end up keeping the 3 because of this.

reads like an obituary...more sad for those guys who blew the original AND the replacement. I'd still say that's a relatively small number, but who knows how many are out there who's NOT on the forum.

Wow that is alot of cars to date, kinda takes away from the whole experience of owning a WRX!

I follow close to the engine failed issue since I'm interested getting one as well.

I read the whole freaking 80+ pages there and got disappointed and planned on give up on the WRX purchase

The issue are more likely happen to those that have the production date beyond 09/2008. Those made after is much safer and has less issue reported, and there is only around 25 WRX reported to have issue out of all the WRX being sold in NA. Even tho there will be few more that haven't reported to the forum, I believe the numbers aren't huge, maybe 2-5% of the total number?

Subaru is aware of the issue and they will fix them and give you a free loaner which make sense. I also talked to a Sales person and they claim that Subaru told them to fix the problem before selling them, so the WRX that has issue is either from the dealer that didn't bother fix them before delivery to client and they are sold before the order being sent by Subaru.

I admit that there is still worry about the WRX, but it is your call.
You cant buy other car but there is chance that it won't be 100% healthy as well. my 2 cents.

Wow! This makes me feel better about my Mazda no doubt. Suddenly potential rust issues don't seem as bad as a failed engine after 150miles. Can you imagine???! Wow I would be somewhat irate to say the least.

It sucks for sure but everything over the vin 804*** are fine (for the hatch). I'm 808*** and I'm not worried anymore. My built date is in 10/08. I'm gonna be stage 2 and protuned next month. Pushing about 350hp. According to the tuner.

Expect 0-100mph in 4sec flat boyz:chuckle

Is funny how people not doing any reserach before buying a car.
Just type 2009 WRX or 2008 WRX, I'm sure google will bring you a link where the topic discussed about the engine issue.

Then the tuner is feeding you a load of horse shit dude.
0-100mph = 0-160km in 4 secs flat? eerrr I don't think F1 cars can even do that (i think). :loco

LOL I know you meant km/h though :chuckle

Yah, I'm sure he meant kmph... As for F1 cars, here are some generic stats...F1 car FTW. :chuckle

0 to 100 km/h (62 mph): 1.7 seconds

0 to 200 km/h (124 mph): 3.8 seconds

0 to 300 km/h (186 mph): 8.6 seconds

Yeah I asked a buddy of mine who is really in to F1 and they can clear 4 secs easily for 0-100mph. DAMN! nuts nuts nuts.

I remember watching the world rally series reality show on TLC in asia and they mentioned that the Subaru team had a very bad year with all kind of engine and other type of issues. Not surprised to hear that the 2008-2009 has problems.

One of the F1 games has a really hard challenge.. 0-100mph - 0 in 6.6 seconds.

The cars can sure as hell do it if you know how to drive one.

as for the WRX, this is an odd problem; i wouldn't have expected something like this to sneak through their quality control, but I guess it has. Too bad for Subaru too. the look of the WRX has grown on me (like the previous generation), but i'm still not a fan of it. coupled with the reliability issues, this has made me not one to even consider an impreza/wrx/sti.
