my car pops out of second gear when i am off the gas, not sure what this has to do with, but gets VERY annoying. I have also noticed that I can push the gear right out when off the gas with no effort at all.

this car whines a lot & clunks like a biatch since day 1 i've had it (to my standards). I'm used to quickshifting/slamming gears on lower powered cars, when I drove this car the same way, it clunked almost everytime I shift. I think its normal, just the tranny not keeping up with you. The other MS3 I've driven is the exact same, not just my car.
slow down your shifts, the clunk is a lot less noticable when you shift slower. IE, when changing/engaging gear, just push the lever with your palm gently, there will be a small delay then you will feel the lever slide in smoothly & no/minimum clunk. I think its the slow syncros?

start the car, put it in 5th or 6th gear and dump the clutch (no gas)... if it turns off very quickly your clutch is fine. if it continues to run for a second or two and has a hard time coming to a halt than your clutch is slipping.
another method is to drive up a hill in 5th or 6th gear and mash the gas, if the tach jumps but the speedo doesn't your clutch is slipping.
A clutch will slip in those gears before it does in 1st 2nd and third... so if it doesn't slip there its not your clutch giving your the problem

I read somewhere that it may be the shifter weight? What are they doing for this issue at Ajax Mazda?
mine is fine, no any noise from tranny so far, all gear is smooth as silk. you should get it check in dealer ASAP.

+1
.
Whine, resistance … unsure what is it ,it sounds abnormal.
my car pops out of second gear...
The first fault in line are the engine mounts, the second is the shifter cable. Here, on the forum is video somewhere, how to adjust selector and shifter cables, but engine mounts are first. And ,before adjusting, good deal to check cables under the car.

ive only driven 4 MS3 but all 4 of them have low gear whine & notchy shifters. the newest one had 20km on it and it still whined, mine had 200km when I picked it up, same noise. The whine & notchyness is very noticable coming from smooth, long throw, soft European cars (my last ride). The whine i've experienced goes away after third gear tho, mostly whines in 1st & a little in 2nd. If your car whines in third while in gear ... that sounds unusual
I can drive the car butter smooth now even with the notchy shifter, but it is still notchy & whines. The rear tranny mount helped the notchyness a lot at the cost of increased vibration on take offs.
Craig: There is something wrong with your tranny and your car have warranty so you should take it in. Popping out of gear with clutch up is not normal.

Any suggestions on dealerships that won't give me the run around? I usually take my vehicle to them and have bought 2 cars from them. But I know how service depots seem to not like going through the warranty hassle. Also the fact that I am 20 may give them the idea that it will be easy to say it isn't covered...

I can push the gear out with no gas at all, I dont think this is a problem ... if anything it means the car has a good tranny IMO, i dont know any techs here?

Well I have an appointment with Ontario Mazda tomorrow. Hopefully everything gets sorted out and they can tell me exactly was it wrong. I am just hoping that they don't look at me being younger and say physical abuse right away
Your fault can be if there is the worn synchromesh or fork.
Just don’t say them if you hold hand on shifter when driving, and you didn’t
have grinding when shifted .

the only time there is grinding is when i downshift into second and the gear tries popping out. Other than that all gear changes are clean
Partially it speaks about worn synchromesh, but can be too if synchromesh isn’t engaging completely.

So I took the car in today to Ontario Mazda. First off let me say they were great to talk to at the service desk. Service guy was Frank I strongly recommend going to him as I was referred also.
Okay so they isolated the problem saying it is for sure the transmission. Now they have to call Mazda Service center to see where they go next with the issue. He was saying it may be a synchro or something to do with the gear shaving. I don't know, all I can hope for now is that they say a car with 26000 km shouldn't be having this problem and they just throw a new transmission in there. I really don't want it to be opened up because the car will never be the same after...
I will keep you folks updated on what is going on, and I may take a video a little later to show exactly what is going on.

The fact that your gear is poping out when you decelerating only, already speaks about worn synchromesh. How heavy it worn, I don't know. On the video it seems to me that the shifter travelling at different distances.
Theoretically, distances from neutral to gears should be equal. Theoretically ,because here is some arms converting linear and radial movements.
This is the simplified kinematics:

Interraction between gear and synchromesh is like as between nut and closed wrench.
Apparently the therm synchromesh isn't correct, ppl call it so, more right term is the clutch hub or synchromesh hub.
Allow to dealer to solve your problem. The all this just for better understanding of the problem.
