Hi
I have tried searching this forum to no avail - anyway has anyone here removed the VTCS on their mazda 3.

It is housed in the intake manifold and is a secondary set of butterflies for each piston.

You can really feel it when the engine is cold - around 3,500rpm the engine comes alive ----- this can also be felt after the engine has warmed up.

It exists for emissions purpose to warm the engine quicker.

Others on other forums has done it and reported positive results in the low-mid range powerband - which is exactly where I would like it.

Anyway - just wondering if anyone here in Canuk town has done it, and what their results were.

A side not I will probably try this after my exams , as the VTCS can be reinstalled if problem arise. Hours for job between 2-3 depending on skill set.

I haven't removed it on mine but I've read the how to on m3f. If you pull yours out let us know how it goes. I'm curious about this one.

I will either try it this weekend - or perhaps wait until the weather gets a little warmer, as it can take a few hours/beers.

I've removed the intake manifold, it gets pretty tedious trying to get to some of the bolts. Heres the write up:

The bolt in the center was the real bitch cuz you can't see it at all, and you have to take a pretty long extension in.

I was thinking about doing the removal while the intake was out but I decided not to.

Try the advanced timing mod first -- It actually improved my hesitation a lot, and it's a lot easier to do.
