I have seen some of those fancy (and somewhat expensive) pop up dash with GPS/ICE (in car entertainment) units attached. They are good but like I said a bit steep for some.
I was wondering if there are any similar pop up dash frames available without any GPS/ICE. Something that merely folds/slides open, doesnt look too tacky and just acts as a 'mini glove box' ??? People could use it to store (while parked... away from the prying bandit eyes) and display (while driving) their inexpensive and less integrated GPS units OR store sunglasses, CDs, makeup stuff and what not depending on personal preference.
In my non-tech-savy opinion I am sure there is something out there which can be installed to replace the existing central air vents/dash frame and utilize the factory void with paying over $200. I know there is very deep glove box and other storage areas but wondering if the above is possible.
Any suggestions or am I just talking out of my @$$ ????

The pop up navigation holder from Japan Parts would do exactly what you need. It has a pocket which is fairly deep and retains the factory components. I had previously installed a GPS but you can leave it open.
It's a bit more though than your price range of $200.

thanks guy
i did search and saw your posts in regards to that... and thats what got me thinking... but when i saw the prices i assumed it came with all the bells and whistles thats why it was expensive... i didnt realise that just a frame (which is probably a moulded piece of plastic) would be that much
i will keep my eyes open and see if something comes along the line that is a bit more affordable or find a friend going to japan who can pick a piece up and save me on shipping and customs
thanks again :)

I remember seeing this on the American Forum. It's a much cheeper version of what Pimpin_29y posted but I don't think it's as refined.

Hey Crow, was there alot of wiring installation or anything req'd? The unit looks phenomonal, but I'm wire+car dumb.. thus if its simple to install.. i'd prolly get a unit myself!

Nah, dead simple. All it really needs is power... which can be done by piggy-backing on the cigarette ligher leads. Bury this thing in the dash, connect the wires and plug in the adapter that comes with the GPS:

If you want to do it more correctly you can splice the wires in directly, run a lead from the audio out to the aux input on your head unit, etc.
