Ten reasons women can't drive
Forget about what statistics say; men are better drivers. It's that simple. We're not being mean, it's just the way it is. Men invented cars and have been piloting them with greater skill since day one. A lot of it comes down to distractions or at least it’s a matter of the distractions women choose to allow in the car with them.
As soon as your girlfriend starts calling you a pig and protesting your agreement with our stance, bring up some of these simple reasons women can’t drive and she's sure to get back to her texting in no time.
No.10 - They let their dogs in the car
OK, know those slutty C-list wannabe celebrities whose best film work was in 'accidentally leaked' home movies? They're the types who let their dogs in the car. Everyday women do this too. And why? Even the use of 'dog' is stretching it, since the canines in question are possibly cats with personality disorders. Anyway, one yippy little thing riding on the lap of another yippy little thing equals one big reason women can't drive.

No.9 - They let their friends in the car
We let our buddies ride in the car with us, and what happens? Every guy is acting like he's the driver. We all have our eyes on the road at all times, regardless of the discussion. Conversations are held without eye contact as long as the car's moving, period. For women, the focus is on everyone except the world rushing at them. Do us a favor: If you're going to do that on the road, take the bus.

No.8 - They obstruct their vision with crap
One of the reasons women can't drive is because they can't see out of their cars. Maybe we missed the memo, but exactly when did it become a good idea to hang 20 pounds of beads, leis and other assorted crap from the rearview mirror to block your vision? These women would be better off driving backward. Oh wait, no they wouldn't, because more often than not there’s another 20 pounds of crap on the shelf by the back window. Until women ditch the window dressing, this reason women can't drive stands.
No.7 - They sing while driving
Road tunes are as vital as gas itself, but some of what passes for music lately must be partially to blame for bad driving. We'll contemplate the cultural significance of Katy Perry some other time, but singing along with her or whatever other disposable artist du jour while driving is a disaster on standby. When women sing and drive, the driving becomes far less a concern than the choreography to go with the shrieking. Please, no encore.

No.6 - They use the mirrors to look at themselves
Even if your girlfriend can and does get by without applying trowels of makeup behind the wheel, we're willing to wager she still uses the mirrors for personal reasons. Yes, just to look at herself. Like her looks are going to metamorphose into Quasimodo between stoplights. But, hey, why wait for stoplights when you can flip down the visor and open a world of oblivion?
http://a323.yahoofs.com/ymg/ca_autos__9/ca_autos-273999115-1233774441.jpg?ympt3vADAjrwulLC
No.5 - They make calls and send texts while driving
Apparently, pointless blather is best conducted at the wheel instead of while stationary. Of the reasons women can't drive, this is one you might be enabling without realizing it. So, for her safety, and that of other drivers and pedestrians in the vicinity, don’t talk or text her back if your girl's in her car. And if you see someone in traffic doing this, give her all the space she needs, cuz OMG, IMO u wont LOL if ur stuck next 2 a texter.
No.4 - They have no interest in cars
Another reason women can't drive is a matter of interest -- or rather, a lack thereof. You can't do well at something when your give-a-damn meter reads zero point zero. Women have no interest in cars beyond them serving as appliances of transport. As long as it starts, all is well. So when dash lights flash, components make ugly sounds or smoke appears, it may or may not resonate with the female driver that these are less than ideal operating characteristics.
No.3 - They have no interest in driving
This reason women can't drive is more or less an extension of our last point. When you talk about their interest in driving, the give-a-damn meter dips into negative numbers. It's understandable; they just don't get the same enjoyment we do, so their focus wanders and their execution suffers. We're not asking for style points here, just to keep your car in one lane at a time would be appreciated. Thanks.

No.2 - They have no spatial awareness
Women don’t always understand that cars and iPods function a little differently -- and not just on a size level. You don't just press 'shuffle' to parallel park. Choosing 'stop' doesn't halt the vehicle instantly. You can't move four lanes just like hitting 'skip'. There's no 'replay' to do-over when you screw up. It takes time and space to make any traffic move in any car, and when road conditions go south, it gets even worse.
http://a323.yahoofs.com/ymg/ca_autos__9/ca_autos-323964883-1233774440.jpg?ymot3vAD2Z5e0eiK
No.1 - They have no driving gene
So, most of our reasons women can't drive are based on behavior. Our top reason goes deeper: It's genetic. Despite what we've claimed in bars, we're no experts, but we can tell you this: Women simply do not have the driving gene. As for us men, we're missing the waxing gene. And is that really so bad? And OK, some women have proven they have a clue -- take Danica Patrick, she's an exception, an exceptional exception, but still an exception. For just about everyone else, the only antidote is good insurance.

Ahhh omg as if you even posted this!!! Ok I get why you might think it's a funny read but it's soooo far from the truth it's not even funny... in the TM3 girls' defense, we are definitely the exceptions to these stereotypes. But I've seen some guys do these things and MUCH much worse than that even!!!!
No.10 - They let their dogs in the car
Come on... I've seen more guys do this than girls. They're hardly a distraction.
No.9 - They let their friends in the car
Please... again, hardly a distraction. In fact I've drivin with guys in the car and they are FAR more distracting than my girls are!!!!
No.8 - They obstruct their vision with crap
I recall a post a while back on this forum asking what's hanging on your mirror... I BELIEVE I replied "Nothing, I don't want anything distracting my view". Meanwhile about 40 other guys were gushing and comparing their little trinkets they have hanging on their mirrors! LOL
No.7 - They sing while driving
Yes. Guilty. But only when I'm trying to keep myself awake on the highway during a long trek from Toronto to Ottawa. And I've also spotted a guy or two drumming their steering wheel and crooning along to some tunes myself. So YOU my friend, are also guilty. :P
No.6 - They use the mirrors to look at themselves
Hardly. Unless I feel like I have food on my face or something and ONLY when I'm stopped. FFFFFFF :flaming
No.5 - They make calls and send texts while driving
OK. GUYS ARE JUST AS GUILTY... Again, I recall another thread regarding the ban of handheld devices. And how many guys admitted to texting/making calls/saying it's "NOT ROCKET SCIENCE"??? Every time someone is driving like an a**hole in front of me, about 70% of the time it's some jacka** who thinks he's top sh*t drivin in his BMW SUV and thinks he's justified to use a cell phone and drive like a retard. UGH :flaming:flaming
No.4 - They have no interest in cars
Ok. :flaming:flaming:flaming
No.3 - They have no interest in driving
:flaming:flaming:flaming:flaming:bang
No.2 - They have no spatial awareness
This one doesn't even make any sense!!!!!!!!!
No.1 - They have no driving gene
Right... crap. I should really get on my dad's case about that one. How dare he not give me the precious driving gene.... AGAIN, this one also makes no sense.
Rage is slowly escalating.... These were clearly written by some grubby, angry, lonely old man who probably couldn't get any his entire life, and thus has resorted to an attempt to make the women who rejected him look bad, and get his man friends, who are also garbage, to laugh along and agree with him, and possibly go out and grab a beer after his big success in writing this article, and fail even harder at life. This guy is garbage and a waste of air. I thought we were finally out of 1920????? wtf???? And don't even say it's all in good fun because I can name off some well known stereotypes that people talk about and laugh at for not being able to drive either, but I'd rather not do that because a) it's not true, and b) it's racist. Sexism is no different.
Close this thread. It's retarded and very offensive.

EDIT: One other thing, if I was looking to join this board and saw this post, I would stay far far away because I'd get the idea that it's just a bunch of guys that make fun of girls and would feel very intimidated to join, even though that's not the case.

No.4 - They have no interest in cars
Im sorry betty. but on this one i gotta disagree with you.. My girlfriend doesnt care about her car whatsoever.. she believes that me spending time and love on my car is worthless cuz its a material object. Last month she learned how to pump her own gas (NO JOKE AND SHES HAD HER LICENCE 3 YEARS), and a few weeks ago she learned how to open her hood and check the dipstick (once again not a lie i witnessed it). Oh in the last 3 years she has put a little more then 100K on her car and not once has she gotten her brakes changed since owning it (the car has 246K she bought it with 145 ish. in fact the other day i got fed up i told her i was fixing her fender (it looks uglyyyyyy although its a corolla, and a purple one) because a few weeks ago she hit a electricity pole, and now has a huge hole. she doesnt care about the car whatsoever... she is like whatever because it gets her from point A to Point B. so betty as far as it goes... there are women like that who just dont care while driving.. and my girlfriend is one of them... im not saying you are or alot of women drivers but really come on... you yourself have seen those women who do this sorta stuff and its scary. but it happens. and yes guys do these sorts of things too but its more common for women then men. but yea i got a kick outta it. hmmm :whoa
Agreed, MOST of the time girls don't know, or could care less about cars. Most of my girl friends couldn't even tell you where to check the dip stick... "what kind of car was it?"...... "ummm a blue one??"
Point proven.... HOWEVER, of course there are exceptions... take me :chuckle lol haha Whatever, I'm not offended.

Fun read. Obviously there are exceptions to every rule. Yes, I'll agree, there are more woman doing this than there are men. However these reason to me apply to everyone lol. Hell, until recently, I was kind of the same way. I didn't really know or care much about cars other than got me from point A to B. But I'm slowly trying to learn some things and have fun with it.

Well, I'm sure there are some that like their cars. I know a few that are interested in cars (not including the ones in TM3) but it seems like a vast majority of females I know use it for only point A to point B driving. Rarely do they ever take care of the car. They very rarely know their car other than gas, break, steer, change radio, gas goes in the one hole (even this one is a bit iffy).
At the same time, I know an equal amount of males that are the same way. Really, to some, that's all they care about when it comes to cars. It does what they want, they're happy.
I have a few female friends that "love their cars"...but it has nothing to do with knowing it and treating it right. They love it because "it's cute". Beyond that, they know nothing and abuse the hell out of them. They also do pretty much everything from the first post too...
Is the first post 100% accurate, of course not. It might even be based on a small observation of whoever wrote it. Doesn't stop it from being amusing...and a couple of my female friends laughed at it and weren't offended. Just take it with a grain of salt...

Maybe I'm getting old but this thread is 'been there, heard that a million times, let's just move on'. What's next, some Newfie jokes, who-hooo.
I know plenty of bad female AND male drivers just like I know a lot of great female and male drivers.
I saw we ALL try and improve our driving skills because I can't believe the number of terrible drivers (both male and female) that I see on the road every day!! :)
How do some people ever get a license I wonder...

all the 10 items in the OP shouldn't be targetted to females only because I have seen quite a lot of guys worse than most girls. I won't agree to the list because the girls I know can drive. And they drive stick, properly! I won't say who drives the worst... I might just sound racist :chuckle either men or women can be distracted... people on the phone while driving are the worst. girls who put on makeup while driving, well, they scare me more than they annoy me. I just try to speed up really fast and lose them make sure they're not behind me.

Pretty sad how little someone would know. I was in my friends car, he had got his G2 about a month prior and it was rainy. His windshield started to fog and he didnt know what to do! He used his sleeve to wipe away the fog from the windshield. I had to teach him about that controls, he didnt know the rear window could be defooged as well:loco. That being said, I was talking to the same guy the other day and told him to keep his RPM low, cause he just got his car and he said he wasnt going that fast... Regardless of what the truth is (what the facts really say), I have asked countless people (including woman) who eventually admit that woman consistently make more mistakes when it comes to driving :). Think how many times something stupid happens and you look at the driver...
The typical argument is that men have higher insurance. It is not because they cause more accidents (which is mostly the result of not paying attention, not checking blind spots, etc.) but because of speeding tickets, which, without a doubt, is dominated by men. How many more speeding tickets are given out (with the associated insurance penalties) when compared to actual accidents...

I agree woman are better at following rules as illustrated in the first link. It leads nicely to the link by Kanetix, which pretty much re-iterated the point that men don't like to follow rules as they get more speeding tickets, more traffic tickets, more failures to obey traffic signs, less seat-belts etc. Assuming that there are about 50/50 woman/male drivers and they DO drive the same amount, then that would be something. But again, I do not consider a bad driver to necessarily be the one speeding over the speed limit, the one not obeying traffic signs (unless its running a red light for example). I know lots of males who consistently speed 25 over, who cannot stop at a stop sign (they will always roll it), who will do u-turns in no u-turn areas etc etc etc. But they are 'good' drivers, they do not get in accidents and quite frankly, I would not be scared driving around them. I AM SCARED of people who change lanes without checking blind spots, who do NOT know the size of their own car when parking, etc. I don't really have a conclusion, I'm just saying males do have higher insurance for a reason and it's probably because, and mostly because, of speeding tickets.

Welllllll, did ya check out the last link? There's a table of Crash Involvements involving male and female drivers... males were reported to have the most, which adds to why your insurance is much higher. Not just because of speeding... and I'm sorry but I have to laugh when you wrote:
I know lots of males who consistently speed 25 over, who cannot stop at a stop sign (they will always roll it), who will do u-turns in no u-turn areas etc etc etc. But they are 'good' drivers
Those are a few things that actually cause accidents and give you the name of a "bad driver". lol :loco :chuckle

How can you say speeding 25 over causes accidents? There is more to factor in other than that.
I didn't say that doing those things do NOT cause accidents, I just said I know examples of drivers that do that who would be considered good drivers in the sense they are very cautious, responsible and pay attention when driving. Driving 25 over the speed limit in itself does NOT cause accidents. Rolling stops in itself does not cause accidents. Doing U-turns when you see that no one is around in a no u-turn area (even though illegal, hence the ticket) in itself does not cause accidents.
Not paying attention to the road fully, not checking blindspots etc causes accidents.

I also skimmed the remaining 2 articles (which I missed on the first reply) and I did not see where it said men got INTO more accidents than females. What it did say in the last article is that men got into more FATAL accidents than females. This could be linked to the fact that men are probably MORE likely to be speeding and thus if they DID get into an accident, it would more likely be of the serious sort. As a result, you may say that men are more 'dangerous drivers' or worse. I am not saying necessarily one way or the other.

Quoted from the last link...
"However, [women] are partaking in more risky behaviors than ever before. The gap is closing quickly."
and
Even so, it's hard to say women are better drivers, although they are statistically safer. Women have just as many accidents as men; however, they tend to be minor fender-benders. Men, on the other hand, tend to do the job properly when they crash, and as a result cost their insurance companies a lot more money.
Though I have to comment about the fact you call people who do the uturns and speeding "bad" drivers. Just because they do those things doesn't make them a "bad driver". It's how and when you do them that defines it. If you are doing a U-turn on a dead road with no one around in the middle of the night, what's the harm? On the flip side, if you are doing it in the middle of traffic causing people to react to you and avoid you, then yes, that's a bad driver. Male or female, doesn't matter.
Really, this thread is gettiing kind of out of hand for what should have been an amusing article. Can we not agree that it is all based on the person and not the gender? There is no "right" answer to this and it's just going in circles...

Absolutely. However, I have almost been hit countless times by people who roll through stop signs because they can't wait 2 seconds for me to make a turn, or even cross the street with my dog!!!!!!! :flaming
I am very guilty of speeding myself.... very. Sure I could easily say that's not going to cause an accident, but speed limits are posted for a reason, and if I'm not able to stop suddenly, or control my car when going around a sharp curve because I'm going 25 over, that could potentially cause an accident.
As far as making a U-turn when you see that no one is around in a no u-turn area, for the most part, there are often reasons why there is a no U-turn sign posted... oftentimes, it's because there is a hill ahead and you would not be able to see beyond the horizon.
Just playing devil's advocate here by the way... again I am definitely guilty of these things myself, but there are a lot of accidents caused by incidents like these.

+1 But none of that is limited to one gender. An example...There's a couple gas stations near where I live on Burloak just off the QEW. Opposite corners of each other and for each, the exit/entrance onto Burloak it's a one-way, right turn only. For each gas station, I've seen people, at times of the day where there isn't TOO much traffic but still a bit of traffic, turn LEFT (thus going the wrong way to traffic) just because they didn't want to go the "long way". One time was a female, one time was a male. Both equally stupid and a "bad driver".

But you have to remember, there were also some men who were the same. Remember the young kid in the most recent season? Or how about that idiot that was doing the police foundations? There was also the guy who held his breath going under tunnels. How about the gay guy (I think he was gay...not that there's anything wrong with it...just stating that because I don't remember his name...) that basically acted how you describe women and got distracted by things he was driving by (stores with sales/items, dogs, people, etc).
With that show, there isn't any one gender that is better/worse than the other. Both genders in that case were equally as bad. Even then, what seems to be the case is not gender specific...but more a mental attitude when driving.

There are certainly many opinions on it. Are women better drivers? Or are men better drivers.
There are many speculations, theories, etc... on this topic... but I have my own.
Much of the things mentioned on the article would go for both men and women, there is no doubt about it. However, it is scientifically proven that the average male has more spatial awareness than female due to the fact that the size of the brain which gives us spatial awareness is larger in men than in women. Also, I think another thing that adds to the women being bad drivers is that they're more susceptible to emotional distraction, reaction, responses, etc... When women are under emotional stress, they tend to let their mind wonder off from their task at hand and concentrate on the thing that caused their emotional "distress". Sure, men also have them, but in my short 20 years of life, the women are usually coming with bigger reactions and lose themselves more into it than men. And when you "forget" that you're driving, you forget to look at signs, watch for people, speed, check blindspots, etc...
Not that's to say men don't have their reasons for "bad driving" either. Men have a much greater sense of "adventure" than women. We like to explore the unknown. Some men, who don't know how much their car can take, they push their car to the limit while in the driver seat, which a lot of the time results in speeding, loss of control, etc... For, for some men, it's to find a new/faster way to get home... and since most men don't like being given directions or read maps, they just wander until they are lost and start's looking for a way out, focusing more on the street signs then the traffic on the road and other objects.
So when it comes down to it, women and men are equally bad, because there are different things that affect us in our daily lives and our personalities play a big part in that. That article I'm sure was meant to be taken lightly and as a more comedic piece than fact. That's how we should all treat it.

Just for argument's sake, going back to college psychology, it is fact that women are much better multi-taskers than men. The reason being the corpus callosum, which separates the two hemispheres, is much thicker for women, and uses more connections from one side to the other. (ie the creative, or emotional side, to the lateral thinking side). Men are wired to be able to concentrate on one thing at a time, which kiiiinda squashes your theory about women's minds wandering off so easily.

For the sake of interesting debate...
Women, according to study, may be BETTER multi-taskers...or at least be wired better for it. However that doesn't mean they use that ability better...or that men can't multi-task. Everyone lets their mind wander...especially in different situations. They key is what has the highest priority in those situations. While it's true, I can do small multi-tasking or concentrate on one big task at a time...when it comes to driving, even while I'm "multi-tasking" (talking with people in the car, singing on the odd occasion, talking on my cell THROUGH bluetooth, etc) I'm still I'd say 95% concentrated on the road and what's going on around me. Does that mean all men are the same? Or that just because someone is better wired physically for something that they will take advantage of it?
As for watching the show. Yes, I catch it here and there...but as with most of these types of shows (Also watch Hell's Kitchen on occassion), I often get REALLY frustrated with these types of shows. Either in the case of Hells Kitchen, the back stabbing and the lack of cooking and more trying to petty people...or in the case of Canada's Worst Driver, the lack of ability and common sense. I can never watch for too long as I just get frustrated with them...So I can see why it would drive you crazy :chuckle

I haven't seen any from this current season. Except for the first, none of the new seasons have kept my interest...too much back stabbing, not enough showing off their skill which is what it SHOULD be...

There's a difference between Multi-tasking an letting emotions take over your actions. Sure they can multi-task... but once something pisses them off, for most women, the reaction is much greater and harsher than most men. I guess that's a better way to say it than "mind wandering off". That was my point and you proved it with the fact that it uses more connection from the emotional side to the lateral thinking side.
And yes, I watch Canada's worst driver. They also proved my point with Ashley, she totally lets her emotions take over when her husband pisses her off, because when her husband isn't around, she is a competent driver. There was also a woman from Saskatchewan from the show, who had a lot of fears when she drove. During the show, the Sask. woman over came her fears while Ashley stayed basically the same when dealing with emotions.
Again, just saying...

That may be true but when was the last time you saw a women get out of a car and attack another driver in a road rage incident? Seriously the problem with generalizing any situation is that you end up generally lying.
1. Men get more traffic tickets then women. Does that mean their worse drivers?
2. Vast majority of serial killers are white males. Does this mean white males make better serial killers?
3. Majority of child molesters are male. Does this mean males are better at it?
You're trying to quantify a behavior based on the sex of an individual rather than the character. Simply because you're predisposed to it doesn't necessarily mean you are.
Oh and Canada's Worse Driver? The the show is edited to make the drivers look far worse then they are. So please keep that in mind when watching a reality show. Things observed become changed or altered. First by the observer and secondly by the person being observed.

My biggest grief for 'bad driving' is changing lanes without checking blind-spot or in other words, driving 'somewhere' without seeing that you can get there safely. Who in general does this?
Someone who stays in the left lane on the highway at 100 when everyone wants to go faster behind is a bad driver, but in another sense of the word. Not what I was really ever mentioning when being 'scared' of other drivers. Same is true for people who roll stop signs when the area is clear.

But at least they get stop and get out of their car... removing themselves from the road. By no means am I arguing that's a good thing. Women on the other hand, I have never seen or heard of them get out of their car, when they're dealing with emotions they continue driving and driving under the influence of emotions will cause problems.
More or less, yes, it has to do with certain individuals and how well they can handle themselves, there is no arguing that, but again with my own experience, those individuals that do what I have seen, have been female.

Another little point: I have never had problem with other men when the forget the signal on, you just come beside them, quick honk, and just show them that they forgot their signal to turn off, or their tire is flat, or their fuel door is open.
BUT it doesn't work with women, they just disregard you on purpose, they won't look at you. I can honk as much as I want, but they wont look, they know that you are there. What are they thinking, that they are so hot and I am trying to pick them up it traffic? :)

Though as to whether the "wobble" is real or even made worse for the show, I know a few drivers that are SOMEWHAT similar. I am by no means a bad driver (at least I don't think I am and no one has said that I am), but I just want to go on there and learn all the stuff that they teach. I'll even pretend to be a horrible driver just to go all the way to the last episode and learn anything that can possibly be learned...
i thought you already knew the basics of driving

Oh and Canada's Worse Driver? The the show is edited to make the drivers look far worse then they are. So please keep that in mind when watching a reality show. Things observed become changed or altered. First by the observer and secondly by the person being observed.
+1 Fang. My wife and I know one of the judges and her family, from one of the previous years shows. You may have seen her showing the contestants how to do donuts in a RWD muscle car to boost their confidence. We even got to meet one of the contestants who was the "online Nascar champ" and believed he was the worlds best driver. Nice and very funny guy.
Anyway, this particular contestant wasn't a great driver, but the guy could actually drive pretty well apparently and probably better than most people on the road, albeit with an inflated sense of ability. In any case, the judge was the first to admit that the show is very much edited to highlight the 'bad moments' of the contestants.
