Quick question, does anyone know if a 2.3L DISI Turbo (L3-VDT) which is a mazdaspeed3 engine would fit in a normal 2004 mazda 3, just wondering.

it would fit, i was actually just looking at it.. hmm coincidence? but you would need to change it to FMIC instead of being on top, as well as your tranny, engine mounts, exhaust and anything else that has to do with the engine, including ECU.

Or get a new hood and run a TMIC.

I read somewhere that you need to modify the firewall on the mz3 if you plan to do a ms3 disi transplant. I'll try to find some links later.

Cowl fits on a hatch as well, and bumper.

As I've understood about the engine, it's more effort then it's worth to get the DISI 2.3L in a MZR. Your better off getting an aftermarket kit, which allows for external waste gates, standalone management, etc

oh thats awesome, so that means you still need a bumper.. Might as well go with aftermarket turbo kit. But if you can find a writen off MS3 with a good front end then you might be lucky and possibly a cheaper root to go.
